Yamaha DTXpress 1V, cymbals sound horrible!

HI. I recently got this kit and as much as I like the toms, snare, high hats and kick sounds, I can't get used to the awful pot lid sound of the crash cymbal, which also seems to record badly. I haven't experimented around too much, mainly just used the preset kits, particularly the birch kit. Has any one experimented around with them a bit and found a more pleasing sound or are people satisfied with them?

I've played a DTX for 8 years (upgraded the module to a IV last year) and the cymbals do sound quite nasty. They'd be okay for practicing on, but as far as gigging or recording, I use acoustic cymbals all round and have the cymbal inputs on the module set as extra toms/effects. I found layering Maple & Oak gives quite a good sound for the drums.

I run a hybrid kit for those exact reasons. Electronic cymbals sound not so good.
