Remo Pinstripes and Birch Drums

My Tama Starclassic birch kit sounds great with coated Emperors. Normally I'd go with pinstripes but thought I'd keep it simple and try the Emperors, really happy with them.

They do sound good, but I find the damping to be just a little too much. I've got coated Emperors on my SQ1 birch and clear Emperors on my Stage Custom birch drums, and am very happy with them. They sound quite warm in the mix. I'm using Evans EC2 (similar to Pinstripes) on my DW maple shells, and there I think they work very well in tightening up the sound. Those drums ring forever with single-ply heads.
