D6 vs Beta 52 gain.

I have an Audix D6 and a Shure Beta 52. I’ve noticed that when I use the D6 I have to turn up the gain to get the same mix level. Does the D6 naturally have a lower signal or is it wearing out? The D6 has seen a lot of gigs but isn’t that old.

I was told by an Audix representative that the D-6 has a significant but tight Q roll off right at around 1000hz. This might account for the lesser volume output.

My D6 is the same way….I have the gain higher on the mixer than any other mic for sure. Most likely nothing wrong with your D6

Mics don't wear out. The D6 is notorious for being mid scooped. That usually means they need more power to cut through
