Let's see your Gretsch kits (saved the best for last!)

Great set of shells, and looking to pick up a couple other sizes. Grabbed a 10" tom last week after these pics were taken.

....

I still kick myself sometimes for not picking up a set of those.
I wanted it in red, but the black looks fine too - nice kit.

Thank you Sir, they have great attack. The kick has a great sound with a hard felt beater.

I've been keeping an eye on Ebay, and have pulled the trigger on a few pieces to fill it out. I have the 8x10 tom, and a 16x16 matching is on the way, will be here in a couple days. Contemplated how I wanted to mount both toms when I feel like having two up. Grabbed a double tom holder today of Ebay. So I now have 10, 12, 14, 16, 18kick, all matching.

Will post up some more pics when it's all here, and cleaned up.

On the 2nd front. While scouring Ebay I came across several, new, but orphan satin walnut burst shells, and basically have put together another kit. Renown 22" kick, matching 12" tom, but still looking for a matching floor in either a 14, or 16. There was a 16x16" round badge new Cat maple floor for a great price so I grabbed that for the time being.

Got a few ideas rolling around in my head about how I want to proceed in putting this new kit together. No rush and I'll just wait till I find what I'm looking for.

16x16 floor arrived today. No time to goof off with it. Heading out for work for a few days.

Built a kit out of Orphaned Ebay scores. Found the correct matching 14x16 floor tom yesterday, and it shipped today. All of the shells are brand new. I have to say that the Catalina maple floor is quite nice. Now the decision is whether I put a kit together around it, or re sell it, since I have the correct floor? Still going to look for a 14x14 floor. Not sure how I want to hang the high tom yet.

Sizes pictured are Renown maple 18x22, 9x12, Catalina maple16x16.

Just got my first Gretsch kit today. Brand new Marquee in Satin Walnut, gotta say with even just a couple hours with it I am now a big Gretsch fan.

Beautiful kit.
Is that a flame maple Pork Pie snare?

They called it a curly maple snare, but to me it's definitely a flame top. Honestly I was worried how it would blend aesthetically since it's a gloss natural, but I'm very pleased with it.

She's a Catalina

Saving up for a US Custom some day.

Here's my Gretsch kit.

Thank you. The sizes are 26" virgin kick, 12" & 14" rack toms, and 16" & 18" floors. As far as the ride is concerned, with that particular band, I need a bell with balls - so I use a 22" Z Custom Mega Bell. Although it's not my favorite and I don't use it that often, it's the right tool for a specific job. That damn bell cuts through anything!

I hope that thing cuts through the mix lol. Outstanding kit though, that blue sparkle looks fantastic!

Whoa! I haven't been on here for some months now and I've been flipping through this thread to catch up and OMG what beautiful drum you folks have!

I have just some old (new to me) kits to show here - mothing special.

The first is a 1954 Gretsch Broadkaster (Bop) 4pc in Red Sparkle all original parts - 14x20/9x13 and 16" toms with matching 5.5x14 snare. I picked up an old stamp K - 15" Zildjian, a bell and block with stand, a red drum stool..old too, some cheap MIJ 14 hats, a Gretsch Hihat stand with this kit.

The second - a 1968 Gretsch shellpack (no snare) finished in Sunset Satin Flame. Drum sizes 14x20bd/ two 8x12 toms and 16 floor tom. The two same-sized toms are just how they came from the factory. I bought these drums a few months ago online. I bought a new kit in this very finish in 1969 and mine had the same tom configuration....it's called the Rock n' Roll model - I sold mine in 1976. One photo in the dark with flash - all photos taken with a small Panasonic camera.
The Sunset Satin Flame finish was offered from 1967 to 1969 - not a popular finish from what I've found. The finish was never swatched or pictured in the catalogs and only briefly mentioned in the 1967 catalog. Gretsch reintroduced the finish in 1992 as Pink Flame and it looks darker than the original Sunset Satin Flame from the examples I've seen online.

I know what you're saying.....they're old. But hey, so am I and I like the old drums ;)
