What products have caused you to become a snob?

More than a hint of snobbery in the e-drum world with certain brands (not mentioning any names but rhymes with Poland)

Then again, there's drummers who would never deign to touch even the greatest e-kit on the market lest it sully their delicate hands so there's multiple elevels of sobbery involved 😁

I like "Poland" drums but simply because they have proven over the years to be very reliable mind you I started with an Alesis DM5 module which I still have, then I bought an Alesis I/O which I also still have, I later bought a "Poland" TD-11 kit, and I have had zero issues with it after 6-7 years of ownership, to be fair I also didn't have issues with the Alesis gear which is why I still kept it. I do however like how "Poland" just works out of the box while "All as is" has to be messed with more to get it dialed in.. Give me ANY Brand E-drums I will make it work.

Snare cords to attach snare wires to a snare drum - using anything else is for peasants.

Not necessarily expensive but make life alot better, such as quality snare strainer, snare wires, snare strap/band, hi hat clutches, bass pedal, throne...just quality hardware in general. Luckily, they are more plentiful and affordable than ever.

I've had old Ks but sold them, I think so many are way over-priced at ~$1000 that don't sound great...of course many that do as well. Would love a Spizzchino but at $2000, no way...I like the sounds coming from K Con/Kerope lately which considering the comparative price point, not snobby at all. And sure, I really like boutique like Canopus and N&C which make me a snob but if I look at a Craviotto private reserve, SQ2 or A&F price then I think I'm getting a great value (and I've never bought full price). So many great hi-end snares out there though I could happily live on a cheap Acro.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm guilty of 'judging' other drummers too. Maybe not ragging on them, except maybe BR b/c everything I heard about him was that he was a BH personality wise 💩.

Not in the way described by PPG, but I’ve tried my best to avoid entry level anything. I grew up in a home were cheap ruled and cheaper was king. Year after year we’d put up with crap stuff, till it was absolutely unusable, then buy the next cheapest thing and repeat. With that I’ve done my best to buy at least mid-grade stuff. I have to have good reason to go high end, but try and find the best value product and go with that. I guess I’m a snob to some degree because I just despise cheap. Now, if cheap is simply monetary and not quality, then I’m all in.

With drums, I’ve just learned to avoid overthought and overbuilt stuff. They have almost always been way better in the brochure than in reality, and heavy too!

I hear you..I started drumming aged 10 and my dad bought me the worst kit ever and covered it in wallpaper...It had no cymbal stands just 4 hi hats so I balanced cracked cymbals off them. Then age 14 drooling after a late 70's chrome kit my dad asked if they had anything cheaper. To the basement we went where he bought a slight upgrade on my previous kit for 40 GBP. Fast forward to 17 and I bought my own kit when I started my first job. No Shame in what went previous apart from the fact my dad spent thousands on his own hobby< very little on mine. When your kid has been battering the drums from 10 to 15 yrs of age you surely know he will stick by it. Anyway sorry for the lengthy post. As a result of how my drumming started I now adore top end gear. Simply because I can afford it now and it brings me pleasure. When friends ask from drum recommends for kids etc I always preach the basic kit but with good heads and spend more on cymbals etc. Gear snob now? a little yes but simply because I can afford it and it will hold its value and it brings me pleasure to look at the gear and play it.

I definitely have preferences when it comes to cymbals. To the point of snobbery, I don't think so.

Just played a show with a full backline provided. I had the option to take and swap out gear, but didn't.

The kit was a newer DW. The cymbals were mix of Sabian HHX and AAX. I did my best to mask my horror and disgust of the sound produced with each stroke 😂😉

Kidding of course. I was happy to travel light.

Love my Classic Maples. but when the "What kit should I buy?" question comes up, I always consider the stated budget first.
If budget allows - yes - go for it.

Try a 12x7 block and you'd be surprised. They really are a versatile beast, especially when tuned to a medium tension.

I would buy the "All as is" and just put my own triggers inside the pads, that way you know that it will not have the issues, you get the looks and the sizes, the module is great (you can add your own samples). I would probably get Pedal Trigger triggers anyway or make my own (Upgraded) version of it. and get center mounted triggers from Drum-Tec or such. maybe upgrade cymbals to Polands or better (I forgot the brand of the better ones). and finally you can get a "Poland" hi hat controller from Drum-Tec, but why spend that much when a $50.00 Goedrum is just as good? (I know I own one and it's great).
I've seen the "All as is" top of the line in action at a casino here in San Diego and it looked and sounded great and if you compare what you get with "All as is" vs "Poland" in a similar setup what you save can be used to pay for those upgrades and still end up being cheaper than a similar "Poland".

Seriously... when i was just a young ranger in the wild i would frown upon others using lesser brands than Zildjian or Pearl. But when i became the sixteenth Chieftain of the Dúnedain i needed to embrace others brands. So eventually i branched out and embraced others brands. When i became the twenty-sixth King of Arnor, thirty-fifth King of Gondor, and the first High King of the Reunited Kingdom I've let that go and just enjoy a casual conversation with everyone.
