Post your Tune-Bot settings

Had a quick search and couldn't find anything similar so thought it might be a useful page for others to reference.

Please don't turn this into "I can tune by ear - Tune-Bots are pointless" debate, there's other threads for that!

This is my current settings:
Mapex Saturn V MH
Playing a range of pub covers; classic rock, pop, dance so pretty "normal" tuning.

DrumTop HeadBottom HeadFundamental
10x72082733C#
12x81831952A
14x121311722F
16x14921542C#
No damping on anything. Evans EC2 Clear on top, Evans er.. can't remember on the bottom.

My 10" is set for lower resonance than the rest of the toms as it was a bit too pingy for my tastes. It still cuts through nicely but doesn't ring out.
Didn't bother with the kick drum.

I'm really happy with the above - every drum sings just the right amount. Carries beautifully.

Snares:
Oriollo Phantom 65 (Aluminium) 8-lug
Originally this was at
Top: 319
Bottom: 398
Fundamental 3A
But it was a little too high for me, so have dropped it down to 289 / 384 which sounds good on its own, but I haven't tried with the rest of the band yet.

The same tuning; 319/398 on my Gretsch 14x6.5 Full Range maple sounds much better and more throaty (but I rarely use it as the snares are borked and I CBA to replace the strainer...

Would like to hear what others people use for their Aluminium drums in particular.

Cool thread idea. I'll play. I have two kits that I use three different tunings with. Both traditional sized depths, Emperor tops, Ambassador bottoms, intact reso heads and no muffling at all except for felt strips on the 26" kick.

My Ludwigs are larger so I tune them up a bit higher for more of an old school sound:

26" kick - Batter 84 / Reso 130
13" tom - Batter 180 / Reso 266
16" floor tom - Batter 140 / Reso 216
18" floor tom - Batter 100 / Reso 166

My Pork Pies have more rack toms and I either tune them a bit higher (ala Omar Hakim / Stewart Copeland) or down a bit (punchy ala Manu Katche / Rick Marotta):

Higher tuning:
24" kick - Batter 70 / Reso 81 / Fundamental = F1
10" tom - Batter 232 / Reso 388 / Fundamental = F3
12" tom - Batter 174 / Reso 291 / Fundamental = C3
13" tom - Batter 130 / Reso 218 / Fundamental = G2
16" floor tom - Batter 87 / Reso 145 / Fundamental = C2

Lower tuning:
24" kick - Batter 66 / Reso 76 / Fundamental = E1
12" tom - Batter 155 / Reso 259 / Fundamental = A#2
13" tom - Batter 123 / Reso 206 / Fundamental = F#2
16" floor tom - Batter 87 / Reso 145 / Fundamental = C2

My main snares (Ludwig Acrolite Limited Edition and Pork Pie BOB) are both 6.5" 10-lug drums and I usually like them cranked up a bit on the higher side:

Ludwig kit w/ Acrolite - Batter 295 / Reso 400 or Batter 299 / Reso 398

Pork Pie BOB - Batter 356 / Reso 400 or Batter 390 / Reso 400

Curious what you guys are using as your settings? :)

Thanks for this guys. I’m gonna give some of these numbers a try. I bought a tune bot a few weeks ago and I was on the fence about whether I should return it or not.

So far I’ve found it basically useless for tuning snares and not too great for bass drums. But maybe I just need more time to play with it.

I have a Ludwig Accent Drive. Mine are low tuned, low resonance, alot of cotton balls, and some moon gels. My bass has AF patches, a sheet, and a pillow. I understand it's not for everybody, but I really like it. My full set of calftones will be here on friday. Maybe I'll change my tuning. I spent a long time to get every lug within 0.5 Hertz of its target pitch. Maybe if I had a nicer set(and less neighbors) I would like more resonance. I think I just like quick thumps though.

Great idea for a thread.
Here are mine: I have 2 sets, A Ludwig "rebirthed " Maple and a Gretsch Renown. I don't measure my kicks with the Tune bot but use Rob Brown's method for tensioning.
Ludwig: 13x9 Batter 152
Reso 180
This results in about a G fundamental
16x16 Batter 120 ish
Reso 130
This results in about a C fundamental

Gretsch 13x9 Batter 155 Reso 180
16x16 Batter 120 Reso 130
These can vary a bit depending on circumstances
Fundamentals about the same as the Ludwigs

With my snares I'm experimenting a bit.
My Black Beauty 14 x 6.5 Batter 300
Reso 334
My Brady Jarrah Ply 14x 6.5 Batter 300
Reso 209
My Red Rock Stave 14x 6 same as the Brady

I know these snare settings differs from the accepted reso higher and cranked, but I get a lot of body, good stick definition and rebound . I play classic rock . Again, love the thread and thanks for starting it. Like others I will experiment with others settings. Never stop learning about this game.

At the minute, On both my Pearl Masters & Tama Superstar I am using the following -
12x9 - 253 Top & Bottom
16x16 & 16x14 - 126 Top & Bottom
Both tuned for maximum resonance.

I do need to have a play with some different settings though.

With snares, I just get them in tune with themselves then tune up or down as required :)

Which model did you get? It's certainly a little less consistent over 350hz, but if yours has the filter option (which isn't on the "Gig" version I think?) it makes it much more accurate.

I couldn't really tell you exactly. I just measure it sometimes. 10, 12, 14,16 Toms are in 4ths with the 10 usually somewhere between D and E. Even pitch.

Snares really depend. Your typical A over C has been a starting point sometimes, but I often tune the batter lower without doing much to the reso.

Not Tune-Bot settings per se. Mostly I have it for fun and saving time when changing heads. Sometimes it helps me with the 16 if I'm in a challening room, or tired or both.

I think you're right about the Gig model.

FWIW, iDrumTunePro for smart phones is pretty good and inexpensive. If someone needs the filtering, it might be a reasonable option. Hell, it's even good as a backup for when you don't have your Tune Bot with you. (y)

Mine is the studio. The filter seems to help but once it gets into the high 300s it doesn’t make much difference. I’ve watched a few YouTube videos that have offered some tips but even on those videos they say it can be hit/miss on snares. I’m more interested in using it for my toms anyways. I was hoping it would help me to get the intervals between my toms a little more accurate. I’ve been playing a one up, one down for a very long time so when I bought a 2 up, 2 down I’ve been struggling to get them as close as I’d like.

I have a standard Yamaha Stage Custom Birch with Emperor batters and Ambassador resonants; bass has Pinstripe batter and Powerstroke resonant heads. I've recently changed my tuning to both heads being equal.
10" B2 224
12" G#2 180
16" E2 144
14" E3 Batter 229 Reso 343
22" 72
This tuning is more resonant than my previous tuning:
10" 3C Batter 196 Reso 242
12" 2G Batter 147 Reso 181
16" 2D Batter 110 Reso 135
14" 3G# Batter 299 Reso 398
22" 1D Batter 55 Reso 82.

I haven't decided which I like better.

10, 212

12, 169

14, 134

16. 106

Snares, batter 270, reso 370 , but that varies depending on the drum.

Bass drum 60 batter, 90 reso.

13x9 = 171 batter and reso
16x16 = 126 batter and reso
6-5x14 = 295-300 batter 395 reso
14x24 = 60 batter, 80 reso
Either classic maple or Vistalite.
Snare is either a Supraphonic or a Black Beauty

I usually use the tunebot calc, go for 1 under max resonance, but it really depends on the kit. I have one kit that just SINGS with high Renascence. another that i have to tame back a bit to sound good.

Heads make a huge difference for me too.

My snares I usually start at 300 over 390. ... I used to be 300-330 over 400.... Now the batter is 280-330 most of the time for a ball park. 390ish on the reso to start and I adjust from there.

I added a third tom and still figuring out where they want to be.
The one I am stoked on though is my bass14×20: batter about 112, resonant (5" port) 100. Fundamental of 32 or 64 depending on where I hold the Bot.

I have a 14 x 20 Ludwig bass drum that is usually Tune Botted to around 85/90 batter-rez. The resonant is kick ported. Tune-Bot's BD calculator has a suggested range of 74/85 for a 20" BD (varies of course by drum dimensions and composition).
Have you found that the higher tuning of 112/100 makes the drum sound higher pitched than normal, does it's sound travel outward better, do you like a higher pitched BD sound?

i use a small pillow, i like it thuddier than boomy. it doesnt sound higher pitched because not much sustain, but low mids punch and there is still much air moving and low frequency content. it takes a bit of fiddling to find the spot on each bass drum where the next undertone comes up in to audible range. it is a 20", so it will only project so big of a boom, for mine it works better if that is a tad bit high. tighter batter gives a larger dynamic range too imo.
