While never the main vocalist, main songwriter or main guitarists, he was generally regarded as the band leader behind not just one, but two successful name bands.

Paul Kantner, one of the giants of the San Francisco music scene, died Thursday, Jan. 28, of multiple organ failure. Mr. Kantner, founding member of the Jefferson Airplane, was 74 and had suffered a heart attack earlier this week.

There was a great deal of the bands' music that I loved. RIP.

Small disclaimer....on the 4th photo of the link attached I have nothing to do whatsoever with RCA or Grunt records.

Not another one :-( Boy this really makes you stop and think when the sounds of my youth start dying off. Live life and enjoy.

RIP Paul.

Another legend gone. Saw Jefferson Starship only 2 years ago and Kantner looked ok but had to stay seated for many songs. Was smoking as well. Anyway...still sad. A great band. Though I'm more of a Marty Balin fan. Love this one with the band. This one about sums up everything I liked about them. RIP Paul.

Just thought I'd add that Signe Anderson died the same day. Double Rest in Peace.
