Pics or it didn't happen :)....

Well, my camera isn't working the greatest right now for some reason, then my stupid Photobucket took a crap....so I only have one pic for now.

Here's the list L-R:
In the Back;
24" Giant Beat, 24" 2002 Crash, 24" 2002 AVH Big Ride, 22" 2002 Crash, 22" Formula 602 (my original ride from 1980).
Middle: 24" Giant Beat, 22" Giant Beat, 20" 2002 Crash, 20" 2002 Crash, 22" Twenty Series Prototype.
Front: 15" Giant Beat hats, 20" Giant Beat, 15" 2002 Sound Edge hats.

I'll post more pics when I get things straightened out, and some on the kit.

For the upcoming gig I have next Saturday (w/Steel Panther) I'll be using the 2002 20" & 22" Crashes, with the AVH Big Ride (2002), and the 2002 15" SE hats.

The 20-22-24" set sounds amazing together, and the Big Ride doesn't overtake the 2002 crashes like it does the Giant Beats.
The 24" crash is going to work out fantastically for one of my bands. I can't wait til we rehearse next week.

Even though the 24's all have some similar characteristics and feel, they all sound different enough to not make it stupid to have 4 24's :) I'm very happy that they all feel as good to play on as the Giant Beat, and the GB is pretty hard to beat for a nice feeling ride.

Very happy with all this 2002 stuff. I can ride and crash on every cymbal, and use the whole cymbal. The bells are all sweet, and you can hear them nicely. The 2002 SE hats are just amazing. I can't get over how much I dig these hats because they were NOT on my radar at all.

I'll of course still cherish my Sabian's and older Zildjian's, but these Paiste cymbals just feel right for me these days.

Woo-hoo - where's my sunglasses. Ha ha.

Four 24's, four 22's, three 20's, and two sets of 15" hats. I guess you're a big cymbal type of guy.

Really great looking, and I'll bet they blend wonderful together.

This is definitely good cymbal porn!!! You have got an awesome collection of Paistes.

Wow! You just don't go for the sample platter! LOL jump in full throttle!

Very vice collection! Try to take some live setup pics if you can. I'm working on my 2002 set now, currently have a 20" ride and a set of 14" SE hats. I've been running with my Paiste Sig's for almost 10 years, great cymbals but I do feel that the 2002's are a little more warmer sounding and easier on the ears for my smaller worship music gigs.
Next on the list is a 18 or 19 thin crash.

I'm also toying around with the thought of some K Cons.

Thanks guys!
Looking at the pic, I realized that I DID jump right in! Selling all the other stuff is the only way I was able to do this, but the other stuff wasn't doing me any good sitting in a cymbal case, or on a shelf...

These have been fun to play on, but I haven't had any time this week to get on them much yet. I have a tentative rehearsal Thursday, and a gig Saturday though.

One unexpected great sounding hat combo is the 15" Giant Beat bottom, used on top of my 15" Sabian AA Sizzle hat bottom. The 2002 hat top would probably work nicely too, but I haven't tried it.
I use the GB15's "upside down" with the heavy one on top more than the standard way though. They cut better this way, but the sound is pretty much the same slightly open, or for barks. It's just a bit more solid, and a bit louder with the heavier cymbal on top.

All the 2002's just kick ass. They sound great played softly, and perform amazingly played harder. I already gushed over the hats, but, they are such a great feeling set of hats, and the sound is killer.

The 22" Twenty proto is a great cymbal. I like it because it has a nice stick sound for when I play stuff that would call for a more pingy ride sound. It's got a slightly darker tone, but it's not "trashy". It's got that Paiste "dark but clean" quality, and it can be crashed easily. It's sturdy feeling, but it's not hard or heavy under the stick as much as a Ping or Rock ride. The crash decay is real nice, and it's controllable.
I like this one as much as my beloved Sabian HH Jazz.

I have many Sabian, and my older Zildjian's still, but I have a feeling they are going to sit a while :)
I have a Cheap Trick Tribute band, and I'll use my usual Sabian cymbals for that, but other than that group, I'm digging the Paiste cymbals a lot more.

There are still a couple Paiste cymbals that I'd like to get, but I'm at the point where I feel like I'm "done". Enough snares, kits, cymbals, stands...
It's kinda weird after all this time, but that's what it feels like.

I'm not going to hold my self to that obviously. :)

Very nice collection...I am currently using 602 20" Medium Ride - 16" 602 Thin Crash - 18" 2002 Medium Crash - 16" 2002 Medium Crash (Top Hi-Hat) with 16" Zildjian ZBT (Bottom Hi-Hat)...I want to pick up a 24" Paiste Ride and from Paiste Sound Room the AVH 24" Ride sounds like it works best for Ride and Crash...However, the 602 24" Ride and 24" GB are cymbals of choice as well...If you had to choose a 24" Ride - 20" or 22" Crash from Paiste, knowing what you know, what would you recommend..?..I am playing straight ahead Rock - Funk - Blues - Alternative - R & B in 3 piece (guitar - bass - drums)...I am using Ludwig Classic Maple 24x16 kick and then 13-14-16-18 toms (as required)...So, 3 Paiste cymbals (Ride - Crash - Crash)..?..Paiste are awesome cymbals..!!..I appreciate any advice you can give me...Hi-Hats...?...I will stick with my 16" and possibly go to 17" (Steve Jordan makes 17" sound great..!!..)...Thank you KC..!..Oh and Merry Xmas and Happy New Year to yourself and everybody out there in Drummerworld...Peace...

Nice collection!!

*note to self, fly to Detroit, find Karl, steal cymbals....*

Haha! It would cost you more to fly than to buy the cymbals haha! You could get felt up at the airport though, so that's something too haha!

Thanks for the nice wishes!

I was initially going for a 24" 602, but wanted the 15" Sound Edge 602 hats I saw on line--but Paiste isn't making these, they were special ordered by a few shops. The cost was too much for me to justify, and the regular medium hats I know wouldn't work for everything......then the 2002 SE15's came and it was all over :)

So...for 2002's, here is what I found so far--
If you need a ride to cut, project louder AND crash it, then the AVH is good. That ride needs some louder crashes so it doesn't overtake everything else though.
GB crashes get blown over by this ride.

The 22" GB wasn't loud enough to me with the AVH, but the weird thing is, played with a "normal, medium hit" the 2002 crash, and the 22" GB have almost the same sound.
The projection and volume when hit harder is the real difference (there are subtle differences of course, but overall...).
The 2002 22" crash works great with the AVH (so does the 20").

For medium to loud, the GB, or the 24" 2002 crash is good if you want more cymbal sound than stick sound. For stick sound the 2002 has a little more ting, and the bell is about the same. The crash of the 2002 can get louder than the GB.

For quiet, to pretty loud a GB is cool. Sounds and feels great.

The bell on the AVH is stronger than either the 2002 24" Crash or the GB, but again, the overall "sound" of all 3 is pretty similar.
Kind of amazing to me how they can be close in character and have these same type of qualities, but you can pick one for the volume level you are playing in.

I'd say the AVH is as loud as a 24" 2002 Ride, but has a more "real crash" sound when you crash it. It has less stick ping than the "Ride".
The actual crash of the AVH has less drop off in tone as it decays than any of the others too.

With a 24" bass drum, you could do well with a 22" or 24" 602 ride, a 22" 2002 crash if you like a smooth wash, some stick sound, and use it as a crash, a 22" 2002 Ride for a tighter stick sound, and a stronger wash at the edge.

In 24" with the crash cymbals you have now, the GB will hold it's own, or 2002 Crash if you want more volume available (you don't have to play it loud).

If you want to have a loud ride, then the AVH is good, but I'd get larger crashes so they don't sound like big splashes with it.
16's aren't going to cut it, and it will blow away a 602 because of the way a 602 decays. I'd say 19 and 20" crashes in whatever sounds good to you other than GB's with the AVH.

In the sound files, the different 24's all sound cool, but you don't get a sense of the volume/projection and the AVH gets louder, even though it's overall sound is similar to the GB, and 24" 2002 Crash. It's easily a GB++ haha!

After trying a few things, for 2 of my bands, I will run the 20, 22 & 24" 2002 crashes. I could also just use either the 20 or 22 with the 24 (a "Steve Jordan" 2 cymbal set up :)!)
One band will get the 20-22 and AVH ride. That band plays bigger, and louder shows. I'll use the 15 SE's for everything.

I'm glad I got he AVH, but the 24" 2002 crash would have been just fine.
If I already had the 2002 24", I wouldn't have bought the AVH, but it just came up at a really cheap price for a new, never played cymbal ($274, free ship), and it sounded great on (mycymbal.com type) vids, and the Paiste sound file.

I'll be using my original GB24 when I feel like it at home now, and at one particular venue. The second one, and the 20" GB I might sell next year. I haven't decided yet, but, I'll be keeping the GB15's for sure.

Not steering anyone who reads this away from the AVH cymbal, just be aware that it IS a "Big Ride", and it will work great in the right situation.

KC...I really appreciate your input here...Cymbals can be a pricey investment and not a lot of shops have each and every cymbal available for test drive...I've switched the 16" 602 Thin Crash (963 grams) to my Top Hi-Hat with 16" 2002 Medium Crash (1144 grams) at Bottom Hi-Hat...As expected, glass like and crisp and when half open is very funky...Also, Totally open the Top adds nice embellishment...602's are so cool...I think I will lean towards 24" 602 Ride although the 24" AVH would be my next choice...I had once ordered a 19" Thin 2002 but shop messed up my order but i really like the sound from it, so, I may trade or sell my 18" (If I could afford and keep I'd love too) and pick up 19" Thin 2002...Although 22" 2002 Crash may be best...Have to sleep on that one...I'll have my 20" 602 Ride on the Left side as well...And as you have mentioned, keeping eyes open for 2nd Hand gear, especially cymbals, could change things around based on cost...So, brand new I would be looking at about $800 - $900 for the 2 cymbals (24" & 19"), however, my kit is done baby..!!..I've got about $1,600 - $1,700 in drum kits and cymbals to barter with and barter I must as Bank of My Wife is closed for the season...Thanks KC...!!...All the Best...
