I know C&C makes the kind of drums (with the 3 ply layup you are looking for) because i have a set. They are fantastic drums.

I stand corrected, their 12th & Vine are 5 plys but set up like classic 3 plys with either maple/maghog/walnut with poplar in the middle. So if they are offering 3 plys, I don't see them on their website.
C & C Drums' 12th & Vine line features a choice of 5-ply Maple, Mahogany, or Walnut shells, all with a Poplar core that warms the shell and absorbs unwanted overtones; good for live or studio use.| C & C Drums USAwww.candcdrumsusa.com

Bernie Stone from Stone Custom Drums makes the shells for the Canpous Neo-Vintage drums.
Just an FYI.
Slight correction: The Sakae Trilogy series is the 3-ply, the light ones. (Sakae Almighties are heavy, though beautiful-sounding drums.)Sakae Almighty (3 ply and lighter hardware then Gretsch)
