I need help on like an 4-bar solo/break

UPDATE!!!!

Ok, it took a while, but I got to play this the band last night. I think it fits the song so much better than the flurry of snare and cymbals that I used to do.

If you start the video about 1:10, then you’ll get to hear some context of the song so you’ll get a feel for the swing of it.

I wish the band MC had moved. I couldn't see you spin your sticks! 😉

I love what you did, honestly I was going to suggest almost exactly what you came up with, it has a nice fit and musicality. Another thing to consider is maybe ending out of it with some double time notes just for like the last quarter note, a little explosion down the toms you're already playing.

You sound good and solid here. I'd avoid always hitting the ONE for all of your cymbal crashes. I would hope that you get to the point where you wouldn't have to plan a fill. When playing music, it's best to have your intuition to the point where you can express yourself according to how you musically feel at that particular tune on that particular gig.

This is traditional country. The cymbal always has to land on the downbeat. It's in the rulebook.

I don't have to plan fills, I was just working on this little break.

I like to think that I do this now, but there's always lots of room for improvement! :)
