Gretsch Renown '57s Jazz Bop Shell Packs Now Deep Discounted?

I was elated when I saw that many online sellers are offering brand new in box 4 piece shell packs of Gretsch's great Renown retro '57 shell packs for range of $700-800 or so. Get them while you can. I have no idea why. Perhaps they're being discontinued. But I am a proud new owner (pictures soon I hope). I looove the sound of Renowns and I was drooling over a cute bop set last week priced at $1,500! Act fast Gretsch junkies...

Sweet! Took a bit of looking, but I found a few stores with the lower prices. Wondering if it was just a special run, or if they weren't selling so well. Lots of competition in that area now.
I really like that little bop kit though. I can see it being collectible in the (far) future.
What color did you get?

Hey billl. I got the light blue and white color. Ive loved the souind ever since I first played them over a year ago and the deep snare is an added bonus. 750 with free shippoing. I'm happy as a lark. Thanks for asking

Motor City Blue and White was the first one out and my fave. I am jealous of the bop kit. Congrats All three colors will be collectible.

That's a bargain, if for no other reason than it's a very cool looking kit. Drum prices are super competitive in the US. You guys have no idea how good you've got it in terms of bargains. Even with the exchange rate as is, we pay in £ sterling what you pay in $US, & that means you're paying, on average, over 30 less than we are. The poor buggers in Australia are getting raped by comparison, & certain Scandinavian countries even more so. I'm not especially a Gretsch fan, at least not the lower/mid range stuff, but that kit is just so cool for a little over £500, I'd buy one for that price if it were available here. You'd struggle to get a bottom range Pearl Vision for that!

Thanks all. I can't wait. They should arriving sometime this week. Yeah this lil kit makes my heart all a flutter.

So - did you get them yet?

And if so - pics? Will you put it in the 'your gear' section.

Hi Bill. I should have them tomorrow or Saturday. Yeah I know I whine myself about others posting pictures so I'll do my best to satisfy. Maybe even one of those trite "unboxing" step by step photo sessions. Undressing, as it were. No wonder people call it "drum porn". Thanks for asking.

Hello everyone, longtime reader of the site. Thanks for the heads up on the reduced prices!

This is my 3rd Gretsch kit and 2nd maple Renown. I've been lucky enough to get decent deals on them all new. Blue is my favorite color and i've always liked the Renown 57' Motor City Blue since i got to see it released at NAMM a few years back.

About 7 months ago I bought a Catalina Club Jazz kit for a home/practice kit. I've really grown to love the 18" bass drum and ease of playing around the 12" and 14" toms. So when I saw the bop 57' Renown's discounted I knew I had to have one.

It got dropped off this morning. I'm a Remo guy and plan to change heads this weekend before i fully set it up and play it. I can't resist posting some pictures from my phone. I'm super stoked! Thanks for listening if you've made it this far.

Mine just came in yesterday, waiting for my son to get home from SAT's then we'll set them up, they'll be his so he'll finally have a bop kit, he's been playing small group stuff on a vintage premier ( 12, 14, 20) but the 20 is a bit hard to get under control without over muffling. Couldn't pass on the deal, probably end up selling the snare. Now he doesn't have to borrow my sonors anymore!

PS, glad to see the kick came with an eq4 and not an emad, that would be too much for a small kick IMO.

...probably end up selling the snare....

In my very humble opinion, selling the snare would be a mistake.
That set has a very unique look to it, the snare probably wouldn't look right with another set, and should you ever decide to sell them in the future, having the full kit would probably add to its value.
If you don't need to use the snare, you could just park it in a closet or something.

They're your drums though - ha ha.

What he said!............

Keep the snare....Ebay is full of them and very over priced. Or sell it to me.

The drums look really good.

I think you should set them up, and give them a try with the heads they came with. Maybe you'll like them.

Thanks!

I was not a fan of the G2's that came on my silver slate sparkle Renown and haven't played on toms with clear resos in a few years. The cheap unlogoed clear resos that come on Renowns aren't anything special to me. I actually keep stock heads from my kits and set them aside in the rare event i want to sell it(never sold a drum yet though)

I'm interested to hear what this snare can do.

Everdread,
It appears you have put the logo head on the batter side of the bass drum instead of the resonant ( audience side) side. Was this done on purpose ? You can see on the picture posted previously the white chevron is on the natter side of the bass drum, not the resonant side.

Ah. Good observation. It was not on purpose. I only wanted to put the heads and hoops on. Didn't notice in my excitement and rush.
