One of the warmer sounding snares I have, a Luxor 6 lug student outfit.
Came with stand, sticks, case, and snare, opening the case smelled like an old library.

Found this locally listed in CO Springs.

Couldn’t believe it so I called and he verified.
Told him remove the listing - I’d be right up to get it.

When I met him he was in his 60’s, I couldn’t help but ask him why so cheap.
He said he’s had it since his mom purchased it, back when he was in middle school, he knew what it was and roughly valued at but didn’t need to hang onto anymore.

A 5.5x13 Mapex steel snaredrum that I bought at Mars music for 99$. It dethroned my 6.5x14 non etched black beauty as well as the same in a chrome superphonic that Ned Ingberman bought from me. I've not used my 5.5x13 DW 3mm aluminum drum yet but if it dethroned my cheap tuna can Mapex I'll need a nitro 💊 under my tongue. It is beefy..full of body..great rim clicks and I've never had more sound system engineers at the board during outdoor situations compliment me on that drum. It's been a dream drum for me. Long story as to why I even bought the starkist goodwill type thing.

very bizarrely (to me) I bought a $140 cheap, 1978 excellent condition Premier 5x14 8 lug steel snare, updating it with an INDe throw/butt and puresound wires with REMO heads and THEN bought a Joyful noise 5.5x14 Knight Hawk Ferromanganese Steel for $1400...

comparing the two, yes the JN is SO well built but the (what I call $2 snare) Premier has such a great steel ping and vibe I kept it and returned the JN! Totally strange to and for me to do that. :) but glad I did, simply liked the sound better

20220814_171606.jpgA B&W badge brass Ludwig 6.5x14. Not a bad drum. I replaced the wonky original strainer with a P-85 years ago. Frankly, I'm not all that crazy about this drum when compared to the LM400 and LM402 that I own. I have recently been thinking about selling or gifting this snare.

Everyone once in a while you find those pieces of gear that sound so good you do stuff like this. Or like, if your an all sabian guy but you find that one zildjian that has THE sound. I’m a sucker for finding stuff that sounds so good it’s better than for more expensive/“better” things. Haha. Congrats!

Two of my current snares were essentially free: My Ludwig Standard was a trade for an old $75 steel piccolo (yes, I know I basically stole it), and my Ludwig Black Magic was a giveaway gift right here on DrummerWorld.

In contrast, my Guru black walnut snare cost more than twice the going rate for those two snares put together...

I got a free brand new snare with a drum kit after I mailed in a coupon that came with the kit.

So a Pearl Eric Singer signature maple 10 ply snare. Thick shell. I'd sell it now.

It was my #1 gig snare for 7 years.

The 14x5 Trackmaster for $200 off Reverb ⬇️ It was pretty beat up but sounds great.

The 15”x4” for $325 during a Tama 50%-off sale at my local shop (totally worth it) ⬇️

My cheapest snare: Pearl sensitone elite, 10-lug, steel shell. It's a workhorse that's seen hundreds of gigs.

I bought it used from eBay. I think it cost about $100. I like it because it has a bright ring, is sensitive, holds its tuning and us usually loud enough to cut through the mix without being mic'ed.

Just to clarify... are we talking about snares that have the lowest suggested retail price or are we including smoking deals that we got on otherwise expensive snare drums?
