Comfort Food

The old expression "Everything in Moderation" - IMHO still olds true. Believe me I had my share of Mickey Ds and BK burgers while on the run over the years. . But that's been years now. Bozozoid, Fried Calamari was never served in Father's Italian Restaurant (mentioned earlier). I'd say its the past 30 years or so. Don't think there is anything wrong with it every once in a while. Moderation. If you make it, Use Olive oil (doesn't have to be Extra Virgin) same with frying Veal or Chicken Cutlets... Dispose all Veggie Oils: Canola, Sunflower, Corn, etc. Zilch .. Use EVO, OO, or Avocado oil when cooking. As much as we all love Donuts, that is truly Public Enemy No. 1 loaded with useless Carbs, Sugar galore, and transfats!. Listen to me lecture a guy who is at least 20 lbs overweight!! But I'm trying. I wish my two Sons of the Millenium (40 & 37) with kids would strictly follow the diet changes of tiday, knowing what we know now. I strayed from Comfort Foods topic - but Moderation is still in play !

My old classic really, all dressed extra everything, made at home in the oven on a hot flat rock. The top element of the oven is defective, usually, I broill the cheese during the last 60 seconds, could not do it this time but the pizza was delicious anyway :)

that cat definitely has a plan....

and yes, homemade pizzas are the best!!!

same...I am a proud pizza snob. When we did touring back in the 90's with my surf punk band, when we got to any place that we played that was new, everybody else in the band would go to find weed, and i would search out the smallest, dingiest mom and pop pizza place and indulge there. Sooo many good pies in hiding!! And it has to just be the classic pepperoni and cheese...

2. my aunts pesto. I will just sit snd eat it with a spoon, though it is good on everything

3. peanut butter and jelly sandwiches: was my traditional lunch in elementary school back in the 70's. Has to be creamy peanut butter ,and grape jelly. Lunch meat in between...usually beef bologna. Packed in my Emergency (tv show) metal lunch box, which I also still have

4. Frisch's Big Boy sandwich. I was in Boy Scouts as a kid, and my grandfather, and then my father, were my Scoutmasters. My uncle also was an Asst. SM. It was tradition on Mondays after the meetigns for us all, plus my cousin, to go to Frisch's after the meetings and eat dinner. Lots of cool family bonding and life lessons had there

you have GOT to be a midwestern Lutheran for sure!!!! These remind me of my first 15 years of life at every church function we had...casseroles everywhere....i will need those recipes by the way!!
You would be disappointed if you went to Italy and ordered pizza there. You (and any other person used to American style pizza).
I thought it could have been that particular place (the restaurant), but after going to 5 difference cities and trying several restaurants I found ALL of them were very, very bland. (You can order slices which makes it a lot easier to try without getting a full meal).
Americans are used to lots of cheese, as pictured on the responses. Also, we eat extremely large portions. The rest of the world is much healthier.

yeah, I experienced the same thign when I went to Ireland...was expecting some of the "traditional food" to taste like it does here, and found it to be - pleasantly - less salty and "in your face" taste-wise. I liked that. It tasted "clean". Granted, we could get American-ized versions of stuff in the touristy areas, but at the b&b's we stayed at, it was a much different world. A better food world for sure

I have a year of making pizzas at the bar, It's my heritage from the restaurant. The cat has a plan :) but he can't have any pizza. No worries for him, he on a extremely luxurious raw meat regimen. ((;

If the economy and management of Canada and the US is following the current path we don't have very much longer to enjoy extra cheese pizza, peperoni, steak, ownership and a automobile. As far as I know, we are the last generation that will enjoy food abundance.

However we could eat less a lot, I can't deny that.

@cbphoto Ouff I love Pastrami!! That pizza must be excellent also, Pan pizza! I should try that eventually, they sell these crusts in bags right?

Well you've convinced me, tonight I'll stop at the grocerie and buy the ingredients for a pan pizza.

About 15 to 20 years ago I started training myself to only eat until I was satisfied. Satisfied not full. A Lot of people make the mistake of continuing to eat because something is delicious. That is a sure recipe to gain weight.

I (since then) am used to eating normal size portions, and have been able to maintain a healthy weight well into my 50's.
It is not hard to do, but it is hard to get started.
O
nce you achieve the ability to say to yourself, "Stop put down the fork and walk away from the table" You will be on your way to a much better life. (Plus save some $$ on groceries).

Glad I could help fix your desperate situation. 🤣

I've started to reduce portions already, my cause is not lost. I am 5'-10.75" and 194 lbs, 42 years old, around 185, 180 would be much much better. 1 year ago I cut the refined sugar, at least 80% in the form of cookies, cakes, chocolate milk and all the real extreme stuff, it stabilized my weight bellow 200.

My latest challenge is to cut my cheese intake by half, each week. I still can eat a lot of cheese, after that, maybe adding a very light amount of sport to my regimen.

This thread was about comfort food and not cutting on cheese. :D

cheese is comfort food for many people though!!

but yeah, the sugar thing is HUGE in shedding "bull crap pounds" as I call them

man...i wish I could say I have great memories of my ethnic food...

but I am 100% Swedish, and all we eat is pickled everything....blech

I do love the sweets though...pepperkokker; semlor buns; Swedish Apple cake; kanelbulle (cinnamon buns)....
Someone once said that, for tourists in Sweden, every meal is a heartbreak.
(Gotta be better than Icelandic fermented shark buried in the ground for a couple of years though.)

Fried liver, bacon, and onions, with runner beans and mashed potato.
So delicious there is no time to breathe between mouthfuls.
And I just realised haven't had it for years!!

Memphis barbecue. Baja fish tacos. Irish stew. Bluebell Chocolate Chip ice cream.

yep....in Sweden and Norway that fish buried in the ground is cod...cod put in lye, and then buried. Lutefisk. Disgusting. It comes out as a clear gelatin looking substance.

my German side also shuns me because I can't stand sauerkraut....diiiiisgusting as well....
