Good eye! Though I'm not sure about the trad grip part.
So his parents may have cheaped out by getting him a CB-700 kit, but at least he's learning some ambidexterity by playing open handed.

If he's playing open handed and playing the snare w the right, the slant would go along w/ that. But yes, ambidexterity for the win!
