Best Double Bass Drum Pedal

I've been looking around at double pedals and I found myself leaning towards a pair of PDP Concept series doubles because they seemed to be a good quality for the price and sense I play a PDP kit I would be keeping it in brand so I don't have an ocd freakout. I was also looking at the DW 3000's and I was wanting to ask for opinions on the pedals from someone that's played on them

and yes i know the DW 9000s or Speed Cobras are better but they are just out of my price range.

Thanks,
Ninja

If we're talking the most versatile, best made, most user friendly and perhaps the fastest pedal on the market without cost being an issue, I would have to say that the Trick Drums Pro 1v series sorta wins that. On the market (as far as I know) it is one of the only pedals in which a double can be turned into two fully functioning singles. It also has so many customization possibilities that with one line you can change out a short board for a longboard, replace direct drive linkage with chain drive, replace pretty much any part that fails on the pedal through Trick and put probably the worlds most advanced and coolest triggering system on the things. Its also made like a brick! I believe that for most of the pedal, they use some form of Aluminum/Copper alloy (probably hardened/tempered 2024) which practically has the same tensile strength as steel. Pretty much, unless you are really careless, the chassis of the pedal is unbreakable.

Out of the pedals I've played, I would say Trick Pro 1V are easily the highest quality. Not just material and parts but the engineering in the design and performance. They're highly adjustable and you can make them feel and play the way you want.

The Speed cobras, although maybe not "the best" pedals money can buy, these might be the best in their price range. Absolutely amazing feel and control, tons of power, and sooo fast. I'm thrilled with my Tricks but wish I had not sold my speed cobras. They're just a lot of fun to play.

Hi Everyone - out of curiosity does anyone know if the PDP B.O.A. pedals are still being sold anywhere? I remember them being advertised a few years ago and now nothing. In case you're not familiar with them, they have a flexible footboard that acts like a spring. Thanks!

Hi:

What recommendations do you have for Double Bass Drum Pedals. Which is the best - and why?

Looking at a whole bunch right now and I need your help.

Has anyone tried the Duallist? Or the Off Center one?

Thanks for the help.

My personal preference is the Pearl Demon Drive Direct drive double.

I remember seeing them, and they looked interesting.....................but, I do think they are discontinued

i'm brand new. got a used tama swingstar 5-piece and i've sat behind the thing 3 times...

either way, i have no experience with pedal feel and how different pedals compare to each other, but after researching, albeit quickly and crudely, i went with a custom classic dp802.

it was inexpensive and didn't have many reviews, but i did find this thread - http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56575 - which gave me some confidence about buying something that had little-to-no reviews.

it has a double chain, which is the only reason i got it over the mapex 500.

it hasn't arrived yet, and since i'm brand new at drumming, i really don't anticipate any issues for just having fun.

I wouldn't think for someone just starting out that I would get a double bass pedal, you should work on getting limb independence and working on the basics first with a single pedal imo.
Anyways to get on with the post, I use tama speed cobra double pedals, you can get them on zZounds.com doing payments and I love them.
Im going to get me some axis pedals next.

After years of playing IC's, I finally forked over the money and ordered some lefty longboard double X's from Axis. There's quite a difference in the feeling, and I've found that you have to find the sweet spot on these to be able to play at a higher bpm. I'm no speed demon, but playing heel up, and towards the back of the pedal (where a heel plate would normally be), is where the beater is most powerful, whereas playing closer to the beaters actually is less bouncy, and feels flat to play.

No such thing as the best.

DW 5002 AD3. Only pedal I've ever had. Not the lightest pedal, but it's nice and smooth. If it was only about speed, I would get something different, but for versatility and dynamics it's still a good solid pedal.

If I was into a new pedal in the same vein I'd probably check out Yamaha.

Pedals are important, but it's still about the player. It's not like sticks, and even there I guess we can adjust if we really have to. Just keep the spring nice and loose and I'm good.

I have been playing for six years. I got my iron cobra double pedal about 3 years ago. I loved them, they just seem to be wearing out on me and I'm looking for something cleaner feeling that runs smoothly. For my next pedal I have the Axis long board pedals, or the dw 9,000 double pedals. Not sure which one to get seeing the prices are both close.

Owned a number of the usual suspects...recently got a Yamaha 9500D. Simple, smooth, powerful, direct drive (which I enjoy). Ticks all the boxes for me.

If you want multiple cams and numerous adjustments, straps, chains, etc - these aren't for you. Plenty of other pedals with those options. Just a really clean, balanced, smooth and punchy set of pedals :)

I've owned Tama Iron Cobra doubles, Tama Speed Cobra doubles, and most recently DW 9000 doubles and the 9000s are MY pick for the "best" double pedals. I like the Iron Cobras and still have them but something about them wasn't exactly what I want, Speed Cobras feel too light and for me lacked power also dialing them in was a hassle and took WAY too long, the DW 9000s that I just got are great though they have tons of adjustments and they're all easy to make plus they have the power I like.

It all depends on what YOU like in a pedal, remember "best" is an opinion word!

Hope OP has found a pedal he likes within the last 5 years. haha

It really is personal preference.. I dislike the dw9000's. they feel way too heavy, but I did like the 5000's.

I prefer direct drive for playing metal, but chain for rock/punk.

maybe why I have always been such a pedal wh*re and had 3 double pedals and a few singles at one period of time.. Cobras,5000's,9000's,axis,demondrives, camco, elim's you name it.

I agree with OP that I tinker WAAAAY too much and have in fact made things worse for myself. but the set it and foreget it pedal you want? just don't touch it. hahaha.

Just because they have an adjustment doesn't mean you have to tweak it. unless it feels BAD just leave it alone. I'd rather have options I don't need than want to change an angle, position or setting and not be able to.

I love this - (then i'm bias) - Colour isn't normally our (Malleus) thing, but the Iron man theme had me wet. PedalPorn!

Maybe someone suggested this in the last five years, but I'd get another pedal that felt like my primary and get another bass drum ;)

The market is certainly a bit saturated, but a lot of the variations are valid.

I "upgraded" to 9000s about a year ago and well, for that kind of pedal it's among the top ones for sure, but other designs are just as valid.

If was a triggering speed monster metal guy I might have chosen differently.

If I was worried about the size and weight of the pedal itself I know I would, but I actually like that.

Way to resurrect an old thread!

FYI, Malleus is out of business due to the owner's scary legal issues.

My most recent purchase and favorite pedal at the moment is DW MCD DOUBLE PEDAL and my MDD hi-hat stand.
