$4000 Armand Zildjian 100th Birthday Ride.

In the last couple days Zildjian announced a limited release of some of their family vault cymbals, 200 of the 20" A ride and 200 of the 15" A crash in cases and COA's. A much as I like the look and idea of the collectors editions but I thought they would have made a model like they did for the 375th birthday so we did have to take out a second mortgage on getting something a little special.

I purchased the 100th birthday ride after it was sitting on a shelf for 2 years with a pretty hefty discount but it still hurt, at $4000 RRP and I dare say the new models will be around the same amount I would have prefered a 1 year release of a 400th anniversary cymbal. If there is an opportunity to buy one down the track (again at a dusty on the shelf discount) I might consider it, not everyday you can buy a brand new hand selected 1960's A ride in mint condition but man it's a lot of money.

I wonder if there's anyone left except bean counters and image makers in that company. They haven't had a single good design idea since Paul left and everything seems driven by squeezing the last possible buck out of their customers.

What's an RRP, and how does that translate to USD?
Current conversion is $2645USD.

I really love the brand and has been my go to for decades and being a collector I would love to pillage my bank account for something that may or may not be used or go up in value but, I was holding out for just a normal ride :(

Is having Armand Zildjian's fingerprints on a cymbal really going to make a difference? Makes no sense to me. It would only make sense if you could buy one for a song, hold onto it for a while, then flip it for a profit.

If it means anything to anybody, Gibson is now selling vintage Gibson guitars they have accumulated over the years, including very expensive and collectible Les Paul models.

Steve Maxwell is selling the 20" rides for $1999, and the 15" crashes for $1599.

Still, too much for a any cymbal, IMO.

They are about 1800 usd I read. But only a US sales, which is crazy as its a global brand.
They will most likely release 100 of each in the states and 100 of each to the rest of the world, being so pricey they may sit around for a while.

For the European drummers, just spotted this when checking out new arrivals:

Zildjian 20" 400th Anniversary Ride - €2299

Zildjian 15" 400th Anniversary Crash - €1899

That is a lot of money though, but could be something for the serious collector
