    THE DRUM MODIFICATION THREAD.

There is always a possibility. Just based on my experience building musical gear, that black coated stuff is super tough. Everyone uses it in one form or another, and it's definitely made to take abuse. I'm of the opinion that $12 a lug is the more cost effective way to go. Buying the drum...

    Wrong end of the telescope?

Opposite end of the musical spectrum here. Totally agree, low tuned snares sound like mashed potatoes, especially when doing blazing rolls on them. High speed and mush don't do it for me, I want the snare to articulate every single stroke crisply and definitively. Tuned low it just all kinda...

    Drum recording

Question for DAW users. Is a laptop or desktop CPU required, or can I use a tablet or my phone? I keep finding usb mixers. I'm guessing I plug strings directly into the mixer, mic drums through the mixer, then mixer to phone/tablet/computer? This stuff is so confusing to me.

THe Conway Slingerlands have been Rescued

I agree. I couldn't find another. And this one is still in the states so it isn't the stolen drum.

I'm gonna call the two kits together the Yo-Yo's. It's like seeing an image of twin super models.

    Slow bass drum playing

Try it. It's good fun! If you don't like it, you can always go back. And you will have satisfied that curiosity also.

Yes. That stuff is going to be hard coated somehow (baked, powder coated). Maybe a seriously aggressive wire wheel on a bench grinder could get it off. You aren't gonna dissolve it. Its gonna require force.

    Disappointing Day

Oh I just figured it was much smaller. Maybe dremel out the split so it doesn't rub? I have no idea. That really sucks.

Do you have a favourite kit ?

Every pic you post where I can see the clock and skylights is my favorite! Your room is really cool.

By painted black do you mean someone painted chrome lugs black, or it's the black factory plating on the lug? That's going to make a huge difference in how easy it is to remove.

    Help on a situation

Oh I agree completely. I am a bedroom drummer, but I've already done the band thing. One could say I'm retired from public display. And yes, playing with others made me grow in ways I never would have otherwise.

    Help on a situation

I think any drumming is good for your brain. Regardless of where you do it. With a band or not, you are still burning neural pathways and getting exercise at the very least. That's a good thing. I agree with the rest of it. Just not the brain thing 🙂.

Do you have a favourite kit ?

Think I see a Sonor logo on the very top.

Uncle Larry those pictures are stunning. Porn indeed! Please oh please channel your inner metal drummer and give them a good once-over for a bit. Oh my cheezits what I would do. Yolanda is gorgeous!

What are you doing drumwise during the lockdown?

Three months in and I'm totally digging it. It transfers from the pad real easy, and the rides/snare/hats location makes it so easy to go between any of the three (4 in my case). Never thought about the sound guy. Not my problem!

    Earthquake during my practice tonight

See I've been in Arkansas for 29 years now. We get all kinds of warnings, tv, radio, phone, sirens, if it even thinks about spinning up a tornado. It's serious business here, so we know it's coming. Earthquakes, they just happen. That's scary. Think I've felt maybe 6 earthquakes. They make me...

    Slow bass drum playing

A half year is not very long. I've been at double bass for 28 years now and still have days where my feet don't cooperate. Not nearly as often anymore, but it still happens. Sounds like when you go slow you are all legs. When your legs reach a certain speed your ankles want to take over. You...

    Disappointing Day

Get you a step bit and drill it. If it's small enough 1 hole can kill the whole crack.

    Help on a situation

Have you studied the rudiments? If not, start there. That's the fastest way IMO to get ideas and not be bored. You can play 1 rudiment a ton of different ways around the kit. Now imagine if you knew 2. Now imagine if you knew 40. You need a goal or a drumming hero. Someone who you think is...

    Slow bass drum playing

How long have you been playing double bass? This happens to everyone. It could be lack of practice, too much practice, something in your head, or your body trying to find an easier technique. Has anything changed with your gear? Sorry for all the questions. Those of us who do play double...
