Hello everyone,
Just to start off I am fairly new to drumming, I have been doing it off and on for years, mostly armchair drumming .
Officially I started a few years ago when I got my first kit but after spending a few months of playing it sort of got mothballed due to real life getting in the way. Recently I have decided to rededicate myself to focus more on learning and improving my skills.
My current issue though is with my single stroke roll, shortly after I purchased my original kit I was able to work my way up to pretty reliably ramp my single stroke roll up to 150bpm on 16th notes (not perfectly but i could get by), but anything above that it falls apart really fast, and even at 150 I cannot sustain, I get tensed up and can only do it for short bursts.
My problem with this is that it limits me, since I cannot play 8ths on one hand really comfortably above 130 for any extended period of time its frustrating trying to play any up tempo song...and it feels like no matter how much I practice my single strokes the ceiling stays in place....I just cant bring them up above that 150 mark for even short periods of time without it falling apart.
I am 95% sure the only thing I can do is keep doing single strokes and hope it improves but I feel like with the work I have put in already I should be able to start pushing up in tempo already and it just really is not happening for me....its like my wrists just physically cannot go faster than 300 strokes per min.
If anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it, like I said im pretty confident that the only thing to do is keep doing them but guess it never hurts to ask
Thanks!
