Show your second kit!

Hi everybody. Heres the place to show off your second drum kit. You may not use them much, sense there your backup kits or you use it for gigs but thats okay! Show off your poor neglected drum sets here!

I have three "Second Kits" that I use equally for practice and gigs.
I really can't call them Second Kits, because of the use that I give them.
I play my main kit less than I play my other kits.
My main kit (74 Gretsch) stays set up at home and I do play it every day.
There is also almost always one of my Second Kits set up next to my First Kit.

Here are my second kits.
Pearl Rhythm Traveler
Tama StageStar
Combination, ddrum duo fade toms with a Pearl Forum bass.

Hard to say which is a "first" kit or second ....

The Ludwig actually sees more live use in the roots blues genre in which I play.

My Sonor Force 2001 set that I pieced together a piece at a time. Each piece was a different finish so I refinished them to match. The idea was to have a set that I could leave where we practice and if someone banged it while I wasn't around I wouldn't lose sleep over it. I ended up using it for some small gigs and really liked it. Haven't used it other than for practice in a while.

Is it just me, or do many of us become attached to our practice kits that we say that we don't care about, but would miss terribly if something happened to them.

I enjoy my practice kits as much as I enjoy my main kit.

I found that after I put umpteen hours in refinishing my "practice" kit I begin to baby it like a high dollar drum. Three years and many, many practices later it only has one very small ding and I cussed like a sailor when it happened.

This is my 'Gig kit' as my other kit stays mic'd up for practice and recording

No idea on the brand, the front head on the bass drum used to say 'Session-Pro'

Recently re-finished with 'Warning' Tape ;

I have two low-end kits.

22", 13", 16" Pearl Export, with Pinstripe heads and low tuning.

22", 12", 16" Pacific, with Ambassador heads and high tuning.

The Export gets used most of the time, so I guess the Pacific is the "second kit".

Cheers.

Here is an 80s Slingerland kit that was given to me last month. It is about the same quality as a Pearl Export kit. I have not had a chance to play it in a band setting yet. Peace and goodwill.

Hey, it's been almost two years since I posted here. I do have a second kit! And here it is! And there's an extra shot of both of my kits to prove it!

(See? it has to be the second kit - who else would just drop their primary kit down in thick grass like that on a hot and humid August day in Los Angeles?

Only pic i have of my second kit....... i use it when i get to lazy to break down the main.....which is becoming more often than not.

I restored two of the drums myself.... the bass drum is a 18" Tama Star Classic. i filled in all the mounting holes and lined the inside with spray on truck bed liner lol. the ride tom is a 13" 70's Gretsch ( no truck bed liner for it ). Floor tom is a stock 14" Gretsch catalina. i use a 68 Ludwig super sensitive as the snare.
I like to use my Saluda cymbals with this kit.
13" Earthworks fusion hats
20" Definitive jazz ride
19" Glory thin crash ( on my left... sweet as a ride cymbal also )
18" Mist crash

Yamaha Oak custom is my main...... has a much different look now. Recent shots in the "show your yamaha's" post. ( for those interested )
