Amidst the confusion and not-so-wonderful responses about the snare i found on musicgoround, i decided to go ahead and buy it. It turned out to be agreat decision. I was really surprised, cuz i woke up this morning and the fam was like "your drum came" and the guy said he would ship it yesterday, but i definitly didnt anticipate overnight shipping.
there is still a little bit of unnoticable pitting on the rims, but its relaly no problem. I steel wooled and shined up the rims and throw off (thats one HUGE! throw off) and that did a great deal.

Well enough with the story. heres the drum porn.

p.s. sorry for the crappy pictures...i kinda took them with my mac, lol

Looks to be in much better condition than in the sellers pictures. Did you clean it up already?

How does it sound?

yeah, sorry i edited the main post about the cleaning. but yeah i steel wooled it all pretty much. and sound, whoa is great. i just cant wait to get a new snare side head on it. because im guessing this one is pretty old, becuase this is an older version free floating snare.

Good job. You cleaned that up really well. What shape is the shell in?

the shell i just fine and dandy. i basically took everything apart and put it back together again (i had never seen a free floating drum for more then 30 seconds before...) and the shell looked good. and im fascinated at the idea that i can pick up a brass shell for 80 dollars off of interstate music and have basically a brand new snaredrum.

That's one of a very few piccolos I like -- it's got a lot more warmth than you usually get out of a piccolo, but still sharp and focused... and unbelievably loud. Great choice. The brass shell is OK; skip the copper. (It's a one-trick pony... dry and loud but without anything special.)

I had one of those years ago. They are great. The brass shell is also cool. I used to chop and change them all the time. Those free floating drums are a great idea.

Sweet buy! Looks like it's in great condition. Free-floating snares look so good, and the shell-swapping is a very cool idea.

That's a sweet drum. I have the same one in brass and I love it. Mine has far more pitting and blemishes though - more like the original pics in your other thread. I'm amazed that yours cleaned up so nicely. I didn't think it was worth trying to salvage mine from an aesthetics point of view, but having seen yours now I feel a little project coming on. Mind telling me how you did it? I'm also quite keen to get a maple shell so that I can swap them out when I think I might be getting bored. I have an Aquarian Focus-X on the batter, which I really like. I tried the Aquarian Hi-Energy, but it was just way too dead, especially for such a shallow shell depth snare. Let me know what you think of it once you've played with it a bit.

For cleaning it, i just took off the rims and rubbed all of the metal with steel wool. it only took me like 15 minutes maybe. and the majority of that time was spent taking off and putting back on the rims.

And i havent played it as much as id like yet! i played for maybe half an hour. btu ihavent had a chance to mess with the tuning yet because my sister and brother both had a graduation party yesterday. so i have been really busy getting ready and stuff.

But so far i like it. My only complaint is that it is so shallow that its a little too similar to by 12x4 steel tama picollo. But its definitly a nice tone. I might try to re-sell it and buy a 14x5.5 or something. I think i could probably make a profit on it.
