Same thing happened to me a few years ago. So I bought a Musashi figuring ordering lugs from Tamburo was going to be a pain. I found a snare lying around and last year drilled the old shell to fit the other snare's lugs. Now I have a great Ash snare and a great Oak snare.

I agree, at least this way you can still play your kit. I'm not sure the technical aspects of it, but even if you do ruin your head playing that way while you wait, I would think $25 for a new head wouldn't matter if it meant not being able to play otherwise for a couple of weeks. Options, my friend, you must weigh them... :)
 
I think you need to catch a case of GAS. Start buying more snares so you'll always have a backup!
