Hey,
I really need some help.
Im a huge fan of The White Stripes and Meg White herself.
Does anyone know what kit Meg plays ?
I know the make is Ludwig.
If anyone can give me more details towards the kit she uses I' be so grateful.
I can't find anything anywhere.
Jake

Well, all i know is about the microphones, miked with all Sennheiser models: e902 (kick), e905 (snare), KM184 (hi-hat and overheads) and e904 (toms). She sings through a Sennheiser e935.

Thanks for your help!
It's so hard cause shes not a well known drummer.
I saw an interview with her in and she said she used Ludwig drums but didn't say the type which was annoying!
Thanks again.

I'm guessing they're classic maples given that Classics are their flagship model and she an endorsee. But that's just a guess.

Doin' a 5 min. run on google, she used to play Pearl. Now she plays Ludwig. 22, 13, 16 are the sizes given.

Again, probably Classic Maples. But just thinking now, weren't the white stripes all about using something like entirely pre-1970 gear during recording or something? I don't know if this is right, but i think I remember reading they came to Australia to a specialist recording studio that only records onto tape with 60's gear.

Looking at various pictures, she has and/or has used quite a few kits. And in the video for the song "Hardest Button", directed by Michel Gondry, the band had to buy 32 identical Ludwig drum kits. I've read also about their love for vintage equipment, so she probably has a Ludwig 3 ply kit, Super Classic lug. I've also seen pictures that look like a Ludwig standard 70's era and a Pearl kit with high tension lugs on it.

I saw the "hardest button" video and remembered thinking that they probably had to use loads of different kits as opposed to some kind of post-production duplication effect. Wonder what happened to all of them. I quite fancy a Ludwig maple, cherry red in those sizes.

I read they donated those sets to a music school(s).

I don't think it is easy to find her exact specs online. harryconway maybe you could give some details about your search that turned up her sizes? I tried every thing I could think of for search terms and couldn't find the drum sizes. She does play Ludwig, I always guessed they were Classic Maple for the very untechnical reason that her Ludwig logo is the same as what they use on the Classic Maple line. Other than that I have no basis for this assumption. She used to play Zildjian Dip sticks but now she endorses Vater XD (she must be taping them because they are half red). The cymbals she uses are Paiste, 14'' Signature Medium high hat, 19" Signature Power Crash and 22" 2002 Ride. She uses a Jinglemute sometimes. I've never seen anything about her hardware.

The White Stripes do prefer to record on vintage equipment but I don't know if that includes Meg's drums. I think I might have read or saw an interview where Meg said she has some vintage drums but that Ludwig made her drums especially for her. The studio that they recorded Elephant does have mostly vintage equipment, Toerag, but it is in England, not Australia.

And the kits from the Hardest Button to Button video were donated to music schools because Jack and Meg didn't want people selling them for outrageous amounts of money.

yeah. i seareched aroudn on youtube and it had a video of the making of the song, itw as like 30 drumsets.

Geez. I think she's only endorsed because the stripes are a huge succes, not because she's a mind blowing drummer. Mind you, I think she's too simple..

Every drummer is different. I think she's laughing all the way to the bank. I would play that "Simple" to to be making the money she's making.

I'm willing to bet that, in the studio, brand loyalty goes out the window in favor of whatever sound the Stripes think they need on a particular song. I'd love to see the stuff they have laying around for a typical session.

Endorsements are all about money. Nobody is going to endorse you unless you're in a touring band. Talent means almost nothing.

Thanks for that Pavlos, I was about to post the same thing...
