god i thought id got over it. its been well over a year since i bought anything, that being a 24" Giant Beat ride. and rarely have i even glanced longinly at so much as a humble splash cymbal. come to think of it i do need a new one....

See, its creeping back in. suddenly out of boredom the past week i thought id take a peak, wheres the harm in that. But no, it cant stay there. immediatly the wallet was out and a tambourine was on its way. mere moments later a stand. oh that could be useful...

When will this madness stop i thought i was cured. perfectly content with my lot a beautiful DW to play on, some lovely cymbals. But its never enough. I guess i had better accept my lot in life, i will forever need more drum stuff.

My name is Jack, and im a gearaholic. Admitting you have a problems the first step.
Right.

Rick, you're crazy. But I'll confess my sins also.

This year:

Ufip 15" class hats

dw9002

Add on 16" floor tom for my Saturn

A yamaha stage custom (2nd hand) for gigging duties (I sold the beginner cymbals)

die cast rims for my akira jimbo snare

cradle for my Sonor 14x12

A hardcase 22" rolling cymbal case

trick throw off (not yet fitted to any drum)

3 x puresound snare wires

Gibraltar quick release hi-hat clutch

13 pairs of vater recording sticks
5 pairs of vater Power 5b's (which I won't use)

Plenty of heads

I'm sure I forgot something.

Rick, I take it back.

Give in to the GAS. Must purchase... :)

I gave in recently and ordered 22" & 24" Paiste 2002 crash cymbals. They are going to be huge, beautiful, and sound glorious!

I am a drum addict and gear hustler. I buy and sell used gear. I'll buy a whole set just to get a cymbal or snare that I want then usually resell the rest. Last week my little drum room got so full of gear that it was getting hard to walk in there. I built myself some shelves to alleviate the clutter. I just finished the shelves yesterday. It was such a relief to have my floor back.
Today I saw a cheap drum set for sale on craigslist. It had a black galaxy snare with it. Experience told me that I could buy the set, keep the snare, and sell the rest; basically getting the snare for free after a little effort. The problem was that I had promised my wife that I would not buy any more drums until I sold some. Of course, I bought them. My wife gave me permission as long as I swore this would be it for a while. I am very lucky to have such an understanding wife.
Well I just got done unloading my new drums. I look on the craigslist. There's a four piece '65 Slingerland in decent shape for $200. I need help!

I've really never been much of a GAS person but for me the last 3 years has been a total rehaul of my gear. This comes after not buying much of anything other than consumables for about 25 years.

It all started by deciding to sell all but 4 (lost track of exact number) cymbals and the Yamaha Recording Custom I purchased in 1985/1986.

I went through a total change as a result of my ears, tastes and playing situations changing.

- Too many cymbals to list but let's just say I have a healthy collection of various Agop and Bosphorus cymbals I began to acquire (some used / some new) since 2011

- Drums now owned are all Gretsch Traditional sized bop kits. USA Customs, New Classics and a soon to be Brooklyn (with a USA snare drum due in around Feb 2014).

I'm done. I mean it. I'm done. With my last acquisition, I truly feel like I'm at a place where I was once I purchased the Recording Customs. All itches have been scratched and I am personally closing the door on new stuff other than consumables (heads, sticks, parts as needed).

Admitting you have a problems the first step.
Right.
Guys????

I call it a passion. My wife calls it a problem. Her Scrap booking "gear" can get pricey as well so we keep each other in check.

I blame you guys for my impending G.A.S. I had two kits and nice cymbals, but the bay (ebay) kept calling to me. I bought more and more cymbals and snares. I sold one kit only to buy (maybe finance) another. Just finished getting a new snare for my birthday. I literally have everything i need, two excellent sets of everything. But...I need more... curse you..I have school to pay for!!!

Seriously though can this be an actual addiction? I'm not kidding. Sometimes I can't focus and I find myself wanting to buy more drums stuff. I have to save up for college (dropped out a semester to scrounge up money) yet my wallet is always empty and my gear is getting bigger. It even got so bad as to be a problem in my relationships, family, friends, significant other. Is it only me or are there others suffering the same?

My wife and I were at a casino last Friday and she won pretty big on a slot sitting next to me. Before the thing was done totaling the amount, in my head I had it spent on a vintage set of Luddies...WTF it wasn't even my money and I had dreams of some more gear!

I think Rob's post above says it all. Many of us justify our purchases by saying we're going to re-sell it and profit or break even. Then we look around and realize we're out of space...and still neglect to sell any gear!

By the way, this site is the worst G.A.S. support group ever!

I bought some stuff this year, but sold a lot too, so I was able to keep away from "Out Of Pocket" spending by using credit at the shop instead of taking cash.
It was money already spent, so I can say I'm not paying for more stuff. It makes sense. Maybe. I'll justify it that way haha! I would have spent the cash I got from selling old gear there anyway.

I have a set of 15" GB hats up for sale at the shop, but I think I will take them back.
The 20" GB sold, I didn't like the sound of it as much as the first one I had (long story). I might be on the look out for a GB 20 that I really like. They are pretty similar, but you know "the one" when you hit it.

I mainly have cymbals at the shop for sale now. All the hardware sold, except for a couple pieces.

I said I was done with snares.
I was. Then I heard the 6.5 Supralite. But, because of things that sold, my OOP was $0--and the deal I got (how much credit was used) was pretty freaking good too! :)
I have a couple wood snares I am thinking of selling. They're great, but, I just don't use them.
I don't have the GAS on hardware like I used to. Not at all.

The "one thing" that I'd really like to get is a Gold Sparkle Ludwig kit in the sizes I use.... but, I have 3 (different color) kits in the sizes already, so it's REALLY hard to justify getting another one.
Maybe one day....

I'd still like to get a Bronze 6.5. It can be a B stock, or even a Rocker. I'm not picky, they all sound great.
If I went with a Rocker, I'd want a sweet deal though. I know someone (I think Rick P?) got one a couple years ago for $100. I'd snag a Rocker version at that price in a second, but at $300 or whatever they are, no, I'd get a used USA Bronze.
But, I don't need it, so it's on the back, back burner.
