I finally decided it was time to attempt to treat my room. Ever since I added drums back to my arsenal I have been gearing up for recording again and have been re-arranging and building to prepare. iN the past few months I built a drum riser, a desk and an amp stand. A new interface and mics are on their way to me in a couple weeks so I figured it was time to treat this place. I didnt do any tests or anything, which Im sure I should have but it already sounds better in here.
The room is not ideal at all. The room is approx. 15.5'x10.5' with 78" ceilings. Its a small room I finished in my basement. I have been doing a little here and there for the past two years. I started with putting in new windows and then framed and dry walled. I just built it like a room, nothing fancy.
The layout of the room is not ideal. In once corner I framed in a closet because I didnt want to move the electric panel and in another corner is the entrance door. So putting corner traps in both spots is not doable. The arrangement of the room has changed a few times over the past two years, before I had the drums my desk was where the drums are now.
Anyways, onto the treatment part. I used 2" OC703, not faced. I already have a small room and I didnt want to make it feel too much smaller so I used 4" for the corner traps and just 2" for the broadband panels. For the corner traps I just framed it, installed the fiberglass, stretched fabric over it and framed it out.

For the panels I framed them using 1"x4" cheap pine. Since the boards were cheap they werent as straight as I would have liked so once completed they were a bit twisted. I installed them onto the walls using 2x4's as cleats and this also allowed me to push the frames flush with the wall and screw it into the cleats.
I usually borrow my dads compound miter saw but he was using it so I did all of this with a circular saw. It looks ok from far away but if you look close you can see the flaws. It was also a lot more difficult getting the fabric tight, much harder than I thought. Once I realized that I kind of just did it and didnt obsess over how tight it was. Here it is all finished up:
Next week Im going to start working on the clouds. I also have some scrap pieces from cutting that I plan to make a few smaller panels out of so it doesnt go to waste. Im also going to install some short boom stands from the ceiling fro drum overheads to conserve space because as you can see it pretty tight in here. Ill post those pics once its all completed.
