Check it out.... Yamaha provided me with a custom DTX950 kit for a music video I shot this week... Such a nice kit, I wish I could have kept it, but sadly I had to give it back when I was done :(

I've never seen a drummer do a real thrashing solo on one of these. Is it possible?
I tried one a few years ago and I thought the pads were lifeless and slow.
 
Definitely cool setup…I think I've seen this pic before..I'm curious on how they tied the front cross together..special clamp I assume...

Why wouldn't it be possible?

I had a blast with this kit, I love the way they feel and respond. If I could use one of these on every live gig I would.

The "X" shape on the rack was sweet. They used a clamp that can rotate in the middle to hold it, and then mounted the bottom of the rack tubes to the legs of the side extensions. Totally sweet design! Unfortunately that part's a custom thing, and when you buy one of these they don't come set up that way.
 
I agree. I have the DTX kit and an acoustic kit. I dont find the pads dead at all. If you compare them to Roland, then yes they are "dead" compared to the trampoline bounce you get on the mesh. I think the Yamaha silicon heads are the closest thing to acoustic heads on the market within the e-drum arena, and I have owned the flagship kits from both companies.
