How do you measure a snare for a snare bag?

So I'm interested in getting a protective bag for my Hart Dynamics snare.

How do you correlate the snare measurement for the right sized snare bag? The reason I ask is my HD snare is listed as a 13" snare. When I physically measure it, the rim is 14" and if I measure the outer most dimension... post to post it's 15". It's 5" deep.

So am I looking for a...

13 X 5? 13 X 5.5?
14 X 5? 14 X 5.5?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Bags are sized by the drum they're intended to fit over, so you buy based on the shell size, not the actual overall dimensions.

It is true what Winston said. But, the only thing I would add is that if you have a snare drum that has some odd hardware you may want to go over sized on the bag. For example I have two Rogers dynasonics, a 5" and a 6 1/2". I had to go larger on the depth because of the floating snare cage and frame that comes with the drum.

Try looking at the Ahead range of bags. I have a set & the snare bag is a perfect fit. They are in a teardrop shape, which allows for the throw fitting in the bag.
