What is your favourite snare drum sound?
Like I mean, do you like a warm, big, cracky, ringy, fat, wet etc. sound? This is about the nature of sound, not favourite snare drum model or custom designs.
*Takes in deep breath, ready to unleash the fury*
My personal favourite is a fat/wet sound (but not sound electronic), short sustain, buzz rolls should blend consistently, sensitive enough to do good gentle but still audible ghost notes and ghost note rolls, cracky rimshots, little sympathetic snare ringing, versatile enough for both the dynamics of jazz and the harshness of metal.
When snares are off, should sound tom-like, and sound sharp as a timbale when I play rimshots (but still not metallically tinny).
With brushes it should sound sensitive, warm and wet, with good dynamic range, should sound similar to hitting the drum normally with stick when I do a brushes rimshot.
...yeah, I'm a fussy amateur snare connoisseur.
