Shuffling for Dummies...

Okay guys and gals, I've wandered into the world of the shuffle and am attempting to learn a few new tricks :) What I'm requesting are some BEGINNER level shuffle songs, preferably rock but some blues will work too :)

The two I've started on are:
Black Friday - Steely Dan
Some Kinda Wonderful - Grand Funk Railroad

Looking for a few others along that line. I'm not worrying too much about fills etc at this time, just songs to help me learn keep a good shuffle time beat. I like a variety to keep me interested.

Thanks!

MaryO

When ever I need to brush up on my shuffles, I look at:

La Grange - ZZ Top
Tush - ZZ Top
Cold Shot - Stevie Ray Vaughan
Pride and Joy - Stevie Ray Vaughan
Bad to the Bone - George Thorogood
I Drink Alone - George Thorogood
Moving on Over - George Thorogood
Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin' - Journey
Lido Shuffle - Boz Scaggs
Hold the Line - Toto
Harden My Heart by Quarterflash
Don't Stop - Fleetwood Mac
Revolution - The Beatles
Rocky Mountain Way - Joe Walsh
Black Velvet - Alannah Myles
Everybody Wants to Rule the World - Tears for Fears

And an interesting, slow broken up shuffle is
"Breakdown" by Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers.

Bad Company - I Can't Get Enough Of Your Love is a great tune to learn. Not too fast or difficult but the parts are enough to keep things interesting and fun to play.

Fleetwood Mac's "Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow" should be a good way to ease in. A nice happy shuffle.

Lazy Sunday - Small Faces
Tie Your Mother Down - Queen
The Len Ganley Stance - Half Man Half Biscuit
Higher Ground - Stevie Wonder
Waterfront - Simple Minds
Uncle Salty - Aerosmith
Running Free - Iron Maiden
I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You) - Aretha Franklin

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions,...I can't wait to get behind the kit.

Golden Earring ..... Radar Love.

The Zoo - Scorpions. A good old school rock based shuffle.

Fool in the rain - zeppelin

Pink - so what

Might I suggest Breakdown by Tom Petty and Ride On by AC/DC, A really easy one is Bad Moon Rising by CCR. It plays almost a straight 4/4 with a shuffle feel to it. Another cool Steely Dan tune is Pretel Logic or Black Friday. How about Heartache Tonight by the Eagles? Good stuff.

**I see somebody already suggested Breakdown. Ooops!

MaryO,

Chris Layton, the drummer for Stevie Ray Vaughan, has an instructional video out that covers shuffles and nothing but shuffles. This guy is a master and he's got that Fibes kit of his wide-slap-open. It might be out on Amazon. It's worth digging up.

Agree with Markdrum! I was going to suggest listening to a lot of Stevie Ray Vaughan. There are some amazing shuffles in his music and most of it is not too hard to pick up.
