It will be a while before I see these drums but the most important step has been taken:
I ordered a Gretsch Custom USA shellpack (3 drums) today. I already have a NEW 125 anniversary snare drum (4.5x14) thanks mostly to Harry Conway here. So I completed the picture by ordering these:
1418 bd/ 0812 rack & 1414 floor..all in Champagne Sparkle Nitron.
I've been oogling the "bebop" Jazz sizes (18/12/14 & 4" snare) for a long time and this just came together today quite by accident really.
My first choice though was to buy a RAYA shellpack but the only way I could do that would be to sell my Valjes. That just was not coming together.......I've been trying off & on for two years....nothing concrete there.
In the meantime I put a few snare drums on the block (My non-Gretsch stash). It wasn't looking good - I don't do eBay (selling). I had a few offers but not anywhere close to what I wanted.
I asked my local music store drum manager if he would buy four of the drums back.....ones I bought at the store over the past 4 years. I was half kidding thinking no way he would actually do that. But, he said sure.....& gave me a good deal - more than what I was asking on Kijiji & CL & no bartering &/or shipping!
I was able to use that for an in-store credit on the CS Gretsch = perfect.
It will have a bit of a wait but it's well worth it as far as I'm concerned.
