"Won't Get Fooled Again" - The Who - Keith Moon

"YYZ" - Rush - Neil Peart
"Sunshine of Your Love" - Cream - Ginger Baker
"Message in A Bottle" - The Police - Stewart Copeland

Re: YOUR TOP 5: "Best Drumming Songs of all times..."

Naming just five is very difficult, but here goes:

1. Driven to Tears / The Police / Stewart Copeland
2. Any funky James Brown tune / Jabo Starks, Clyde Stubblefield, Melvin Parker
3. Move On Up / Curtis Mayfield / Donald Simmons?*
4. Snail / Smashing Pumpkins / Jimmy Chamberlin
5. Like Suicide / Soundgarden / Matt Cameron

*Not sure about the drummer on "Move On Up." The album liner notes aren't much help. They list a bunch of musicians, but they don't reveal their instruments or what songs they played on. If anyone knows for sure who played drums on this tune, let me know. Thanks.

"Disco Inferno" is always a favorite of mine to play.
Ah yes, great groove.

Re: YOUR TOP 5: "Best Drumming Songs of all times..."

Oh my, I'm posting in a list thread. I'll add some explanations though.

i) Lark's Tongues in Aspic Pt. II by King Crimson (Bill Bruford) just a great utilisation of a fairly small drum setup within the context of odd time signatures and some great use of simple polyrhythmic devices within a song. The guitar's not bad either.

ii) Won't Get Fooled Again by The Who (Keith Moon) plain fun! I play this song with my band and never tire of it, ever. Great energy, good sound, even if the playing is always completely solid it's just fun.

iii) Take Five by The Dave Brubeck Quartert (Joe Morello) What can I say that hasn't been said? Exquisitely tasteful playing from a true master of the drums and his phrasing is just beautiful.

iv) Wet Skin by the Dave Weckl Band (Dave Weckly) the drum sound and opening groove are just great. Simple stuff at the beginning relatively but what a sound. An overall greatly tasteful performance, especially bearing in mind who's playing it.

v) Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Iron Maiden (Nicko McBrain) I just love the song and the grooves contained within are wonderful. Surprisingly tasteful playing and a good, solid and fun performance throughout.
