Which snare size would be best for a high poppy sound?

I've been looking at 13x3.5 snares but i'm wondering if getting a 12x5 would be better? This mapex mpx 13x3 is sounding nice. The high end tuning is pretty much the sound i'm after at about 55 seconds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4me6iMq7yM

Also this chris adler snare which is 12x5.5 in comparison. The high sound at 1.06: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuxDAid6IbQ

Which size would be the most versatile, but also give me the sound i'm looking for?

Thanks alot!

I recently felt the same need, for some serious pop. I picked up a cheap 13 x 3.5 steel piccolo from Sam Ash and it thoroughly scratches that itch.

I would go with some sort of Pearl steel snare. They're pretty affordable and good sounding.

If you really want pop, look at the Pearl Maple Soprano snare (12 x 7). It's most often used as a side snare. I played it the other day and the guy cranked it up, and wow. It's actually borderline comical how high and poppy and biting it is. It makes a 13 x 3 piccolo seem like a floor tom with snares.

I did the same thing with a Tama 13" x 3.5" hammered steel snare. Sounds great!

Yeah, i used to have a 13x3.5 steel piccolo, it did have a nice pop, but i like my snares to be a bit on the deeper side. Right now i use a 13x7, and i have to say, i do get some nice pop out of that baby
