Tigerwood - Grrrrrrrrr :)

Just had to post these up. We had some superb goncalo alves boards "resting" in our shell shop for 7 years, so decided to craft 5 very different snare drums featuring this superb wood species. Two have been held back for the London Drum Show, the other 3 are already off to their new homes :)

Instead of going our default route of In-Tense series specification, we decided to use a combination of features from In-Tense series & the up coming new Tour series drums to create something distinctive that works perfectly with the wood species.

Spec's:

From In-Tense series -
6mm thin stave shells with integral machined reinforcement rings, French polished & waxed. Ultra low mass T6 aluminium lugs. M5 (fine tune) tension screws.

From the new "Tour" series -
Generous half round over edges. Deeper & wider snare beds. S hoops. Puresound Equaliser wires. Latest Nickelworks strainer.

I just swooned.

Can I change my mind? ;)

No ;)

What do the Equalizer snare wires do to the sound? I've always wanted to try those
Certainly less sympathetic snare buzz as Les points out, but I find they dry the snare response a little. I don't mean that in a bad way, think a slightly more focussed snare response. No loss of sensitivity though. In this design, we partner them with a fairly deep snare bed.

That's tigerwood? I thought it was more, well, 'tiger-y'? No?
Photo's aren't the best TBH Bo, but yes, tiger wood does pop more in terms of grain figuring when applied as a veneer compared to the stave shells shown here. As always though with us, sonic requirements trump aesthetics every time.

OK lovely eye candy but how bout some sound too. Is that 13 or 14X7?

Mmmm.... Twins.

I love them as well. Great choice on those, Andy.

Of course- the drums aren't half bad either ;)
Thanks :) Those wires aligned with deeper beds just work so well in allowing the shell tone to come to the fore. A different approach to the very open aspect of In-Tense drums, & something I will explain when I announce the new Tour series here in the next few days (Andy preparing for accusations of promo whoring as we've got so much going on around LDS this year).

Both. 14" x 7" on the left, 13" x 7" on the right. We're not due back in the studio for a while, & as these (2 of 5) are a one off special, I doubt we'll formally record them. There may be some footage from LDS I can put up in a few weeks time though.

Mmmm.... Twins.
& like twins, the different size is enough to differentiate the two :)

Just when I think you guys can't do any better in looks, you do this to me. . .
Thank you :)

Stunning, like your Walnut drums.
Thanks! They carry the same DNA, but the sound is utterly different.

All the different angle shots I couldn't tell the size-but the first shot you can see the 14 and 13X7 difference once I paid closer attention. Is the Tigerwood a hardwood like oak in it's influence on sound? That 13X7 is sweet! Bet it has a big range from hi to low?

Tuning range is vast, just the same as all In-Tense thin shell snares of which they share the same DNA. Yes, Goncalo Alves is a hardwood, but tonally a world away from oak. It has a palate much closer to the rosewood family.

What can I say? They're Grrrrrrrrreat!!!
Frosties!!!!! :)

Andy! You're killin' me with the drum porn. I'm not even a gearhead and you've got my attention. Beautiful drums.

Love the different woods you experiment with / use Andy !!

Will the Tiger wood drums be used in the Tony Awards I wonder ? ( hopefully not to a frosty reception HeHe)

or perhaps stuart copeland can do a promo song... sending out an Esso S !!

(hmm im showing my age)
