If you could spend an evening with anybody...

It's strange that you knew my father, and that you know me from this place.

Yes, I would like to hear some wisdom from him now that I'm a little older.

I didn't know your Dad personally - the autoharp was my first "instrument", so I devoured everything "autoharp" and your Dad figured highly in that part of my life-learning for a while.

Somewhere along the line in my DW lurkings, you mentioned the origin of your screen name and I put two-and-two together.

And, "No" I'm not typically that smart - like my Dad would say, "Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while." ;-)

Elizabeth Hurley.

...or Bill Bruford. A toss up I guess.

Oh, right on. It was the Zephyrhills connection. I actually moved to Florida and worked with him a little while. I probably should have stuck around and learned to build those autoharps, but I missed California.

It's a fine instrument and I still own one of his harps. I don't play it much though. Needs a good tuning.

You know, if you're interested, I put a few of his songs on the internet. I mean, they're not his songs, but songs he played on his album.

I dunno, getting stoned with Gene Krupa and hanging out at the Savoy has a certain existential appeal.

Apparently, he had a 2 doob limit. Extract is from Wikipedia, so you know it's true! ;-)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gene_Krupa

"In 1943, Krupa was arrested for possession of two marijuana cigarettes and was given a three-month jail sentence which he served even though he was, soon after, acquitted of all charges and completely exonerated."

I'll bet the evidence went up in smoke!

Did he do his time in Sing, Sing, Sing?

I'd go with Louie Bellson, just because I've heard quite frequently that he was an incredibly nice person and there's lots of things I'd like to ask him.

Liberace. The entire evening until breakfast...

Christopher Hitchens, I could quite happily have a drink (or several) and listen to him talk. One of the funniest and most clever people I think I've ever heard. Stephen Fry or David Niven would be close.

Too bad he (Hitch) turned into a war-crazed hawk during the 1990's into 2000's...he was definitely a lively intellectual, though. It's always interesting to listen to his past debates and interviews, and so on.

It would be Nikola Tesla.

I'd like to get drunk with Nikola and rip on Tom Edison lol.

Nikola refused a Nobel prize rather than share it with Edison.

Tesla worked for Edison when he first came over to America. The event causing their split was, early on, Edison told Tesla... if you can solve this certain problem (don't recall what it was atm) Edison would give Tesla 50,000.

Tesla solved the problem, asked for the dough, and Edison laughed and told him he was just joking, then took the idea. That's when Tesla quit.

Great story, Tesla's. Mark Twain was Tesla's good friend. A true genius if ever there was one.

Tesla, not Twain.

lol
, that would be a nice sit in :)
but.. but my mom and dad one last time !
