My ideal musical situation would involve playing experimental music unlike what's ever been heard (at least in the context of one band) with a bunch of versatile people with diverse backgrounds. Everybody would be perfectly level-headed, technically proficient, and willing and able to communicate in a coherent and consise manner. At the same time, these people would also be a passionate, emotianlly driven, creative right-brain psychedelic "out-there" free-thinking, and spiritual bunch.
We would make music that would probably fit comfortably within the rock idiom, maybe even be considered "progressive", but hopefully not because it stays within the confines of that genre, but rather because the music would push the boundaries of the rock envelope with various other influences.
The way I hear the music, there are drastic shifts and swings in mood/style, from distorted heavy metal, to complex technical playing, to ballad-y sections, to dirty funk parts, which might suddenly transform into a balkan dance melody (you know, those that start out reall slow and gradually speed up, and by the end there's people whooping and whistling), with all kinds of atmospheric and ambient sections and "noise" experiments. Supposedly this bunch of diverse and communicative musicians would infuse their own influences. In my head this music shifts around styles and textures based on changing moods, rather than as a technical display itself. Now, ideally these changes would create a variety of musical landscapes that some good lyrics could rest on, emersing the listener in an emotional journey encompassing the diverse musical influences of several creative minds.
You may say I'm a dreamer...
