the what is your snare thread

A beast! Pearl Reference 6x14 cast steel. The shell is about 3mm thick. And it's got reinforcing hoops!!!!! Talk about overkill. Great drum though. It can wake the dead.

Pearl Reference 5x14 maple birch 20 ply shell. Another beast!

I think it is so cool I own a marble snare drum. :)

Just to be really over the top, I put a 40 strand snare on it! :) Oh man, you should hear how bright this thing is. I've not had the chance to use it yet. It needs a special project that suits it. I've only played it at rehearsals.

Every drummer should have an LM 402.

If you cannot afford an LM 402, the LM 306 is a good alternative. I put a die cast hoop on it to give it more body. Ludwig sells these with crappy heads and snares. Once those are changed the drum really comes alive.

Sadly these are all I have photographed so far.

This is the best sounding snare I've ever had: brass 13x5,5. It's paired with a N&C snare strand. It still has the stock head and sounds great.

Whether tuned low or high, it's always crisp and has musical overtones. Focused (small diameter) and full-bodied (brass).

14 x 5.5 Yamaha Stage Custom Birch

Here are mine. The main pictured is my Geo. Way Elkhart 14x6.5 copper (modern drummer Dunnett/way contest prize) and the secondary (on my left) is a Gretsch 14x5.5 Crystal Tone steel in black chrome. I also have (not pictured) a Gretsch 14x5 birch (matching the set) and a 8" x 5" Gretsch Blackhawk poplar popcorn snare...(was an awesome little drum, but after the snare side head broke it sits unused...did you know that it is impossible to find an 8" snare side head :( ...

well, if I knew as much about computers as playing the drums you would see-

Tama SC 5 1/2 maple
Trick 5
Yamaha 3 1/2 free float
Tama Exotix 6 1/2 bubinga

wish list
Brady 5 1/2 jarrah ply
Weckl sig

The pic of the snares is an older shot. It was taken with all stock everything on all the drums.

Left to right, back to front: 5x14" Pearl Sensitone Elite Black over Brass ("Veronica"), 5x14" Ludwig Standard Aluminum ("Betty"), 5x12" DW Collectors', restained and with tube lugs ("Midge"), and a 5.5x14" old steel Japanese copy of a Supra ("Mrs. Grundy").

And as you might guess, I have a hard time choosing between Betty and Veronica.

Usually one of these :
6.5 x 14 Ludwig COB
5 x 14 Ludwig engraved Black Beauty
5 x 14 Ludwig Bronze

For wood shell snares
I go between -
5x14 Ludwig OBP Legacy Classic
5.5 x 14 Yamaha Club Custom in black Swirl Lacquer
