Some Ludwig blue/olive oyster porn ;)

Even though it's a new kit, for some strange reason the pictures in this thread really hit the 'nostalgia button' for me.

I have a nagging feeling I should get some type of Ludwig kit.

See? The same thing happened to me. I didn't want a traditional white marine pearl, but this has that vibe with colors - so its old and new at the same time. I think the traditional sizes of 9x13, 16x16, and 14x24 point to vintage, but the color is new enough to be 'new'.

Not in the catalog is a set that looks like the blue/olive oyster, but it's predominantly with red and black streaks (coral oyster?). They had that kit at Pro Drum - very cool. But in a world where red is an extremely popular drum color, I avoided it.

It took me a while to see the kit. My eye first went to the 24" Paiste 602!! SWEET!!! I have one too. Beautiful instrument!

Blue and olive to my eye is a fugly color combination.

Just because there's blue and olive on the badges doesn't mean that it looks good in a wrap

I don't even like the colors on the badges.

Sold the drums , they were Legacy Maple. and yeah it's not Mother of Toilet Seat. kept the 602's.. note the Rogers T Rods..
Yea, but you still bought them lol

What were you thinking lol?

Just busting on you man. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that

That short-focus photography was big in 50s/60s adverts. Classy too.

Well I wanted to try a big legacy set, I don't really care for that wrap , I mean there are way better choices aren't there? Tried to like the Legacies , they are good drums but they just don't have the Mojo I feel.

I still like the short focus look all the time because I like to separate my subject from the background to the extreme sometimes. Ironically, the iPhone and other phone cameras are starting to be able to do this in “portrait” mode, so you no longer need a proper camera and lens to get shots like this.

Wide angle lenses can be very unflattering for portraits though as they distort the face and exaggerate noses.
Can't beat a nice long focal length and getting well back.

Only Ludwig fans can appreciate this finish, to most others it looks like a toilet flushing. I see both sides.

I really like the drums, but I do not care for that finish. Peace and goodwill.

Good point, but you can zoom in with a phone camera..
I don't think you can though.
The focal length is fixed isn't it? So you're really just cropping the image - and degrading the quality?
Not up the latest phones but as far as I know phone 'zoom' is actually fake.
