any drummer who wants to know about either funk or hip-hop drumming should know at least a few of these.

Awesome video! Also, it's one of the first where the breaks are played correctly :).

Thanks! I'm gonna be playing with those all week.

It reminded me of this vid I watched a while back, about the Amen Break, what is claimed to be the most widely used drum sample of all time. Great vid, the guy's voice is hypnotic, and he raises a lot of issues about the music business...

I'm pretty sure this has been posted on this forum already, but it's worth another look for those who haven't seen it...
 
I've watched that dozens of time before. Nice to see it here. He also does a James Brown groove run-down where he takes time to break down the beats. Yeah, Mother Popcorn is a mother of a groove. With quarter notes on the hi-hat to make it even more fiendishly difficult.
 
This is awesome. I think working on beats like these is both fun and also really improves your playing in general. I can’t wait to get a little time and dig in.
 
And listen to how swung the bass drum is on some of these, such as Impeach The President by The Honeydrippers and James Brown's Funky President.
