Moving and had to tear everything down

I'm moving from Alabama to Alaska in a week, so I've torn down my home studio and am getting everything ready to make the 4400 mile trek to Fairbanks.

Share in my experience! Hopefully I'll be back up and operational around the 1st of August. Yeah, 2 months without my gear will be a little rough, but it's going to be a heck of an adventure!

and since someone's going to ask...

1977-79 Ludwig Classics
8"x12"
9"x13"
10"x14"
16"x16"
16"x18"
14"x22"

Snares:
LM-400 (1970)
LM-402 (2009)
Pork Pie 5"x12" (Made in USA, not the Little Squealer)

I normally play 22/13/16/18 with the LM-402 (60%) or the Pork Pie (35%).

Alabama to Alaska? Talk about your culture shock. I'd like to hear your take on life in Alabama as opposed to life in Alaska, after you've been there a while.

and what are the mics ?

SM57 on top/bottom snare
e602 in bass drum (on a Kellu Shu)
e604 on toms
PG81 for overheads

That big condenser (Studio Projects B1) is for whenever I need to track vocals for someone.

coolness. and what do you do with the SM58 ?

glad i'm not the only one using PG81's as overheads. i'd rather have a couple of LCD's though. nothing against the PG's...i prefer the PG52 to Beta52 for bass drum. i prefer the Beta52 on bass guitar. i just prefer LCD's to SCD's.

I've used the 58 on a bass drum before in conjunction with the e602 and a subkick I built. Really captures a lot of frequency range that way.

I traded a dude something (I don't remember what) for it. SM57 and SM58 are identical mic element (though 58 has the ball and some different foam/diffusion in there). I can unscrew the ball from the 58 and use it to mic a guitar cabinet or something like that - wouldn't do that with drums, might accidentally whack it without protection.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Please tell us!

I'd LOVE to go there someday.

I'm doing a similar thing -- Ohio to California. I'll be without drumming stuff until I get a house -- could be a long as 9 to 12 months!!!

I'm going to be very sad without my Delites...
