Snare bearing damage, how affected is the sound?

I would say if you're not getting a rattling/buzzing thing going on after tuning - high - med & low then it should be alright to leave it the way it is. I'm only going by what a drum builder told me regarding a drum I had with a slightly damaged bearing edge. He said I may have problems with buzzing. He sanded the edge a little - keeping to the original intensions of the edge and it worked great.

Apply a topical of paraffin and check back in 2 weeks.

You would also fix with some wood filler:

1. Tape off around the areas that are ok
2. Build up the small dents with wood filler
3. Lightly sand to the same level as the tape.
4. Take a straight edge and see how high the filled spots are in relation to the rest of the edge
5. Carefully take down the filled bits to the rest of the edge being careful not to sand into the edge (using 500 grit or higher sand paper helps with this)

All that being said.....those are so small I would not worry about it!! I have used the above method several times with great success.
