broke the beater rod on my IC pedal!

Wow, this one came as a shock to me. I was practicing with the band (metal/hard rock/experimental) and *SNAP* there goes the rod on my IC beater.

I mean, the pedal is old (8 or 9 years) and the beater was going to be replaced very soon (felt was wore down to about 1/8" thick). But, I still can't believe I snapped the rod, especially since I really don't play that hard...

Good thing I've always carried a spare IC beater!

8 years is pretty good though.

That's a metal fatigue break. You could have a beater like that for your whole life and that never happen and then the same thing could happen after a few months.

I like keeping a box that has all the broken sticks, busted heads, worn out cymbal sleeves and other stuff like that. It's interesting to look in there every couple of years and see the carnage.
 
I've done that a few times. Once to an Iron Cobra beater and once to a DW hard plastic one.
