... in the grand scheme of things (ie: quality), where does the Pearl M-80 fall? Just bought a drum labeled as such.

That is the lower line poplar series.. but alot of drummers like the sound.

The quality.. not sure.. If your badge says China.. maybe slightly lower qc. Made in Taiwan is the original Pearl factory and stellar quality.
 
According to google it's a 10" x 4" firecracker snare. $69 new from Amazon.

Not a Pearl expert, but....

If it's the 10" snare - it's kind of a specialty. Good as a side snare, or for certain genres, but it's probably not something you'd want to use as a main snare.

I've got a 10" Yamaha snare, and have only tried the M80 - don't own it.
Might be somewhat similar build quality, but the Pearl is a little less money.
