Made a new marching snare

I love the sound of classic 60's, 70's marching snares for rudimental solos. I couldn't find what I liked on Ebay, so I made my own:

14x12 Keller 8 play shell with vintage edges
bubinga fade wrap from Bumwraps
tube lugs
Emp batter
3mil Amb reso
Light weight throw off and butt plate
16 strand wires
Ludwig internal tone control

Absolutely killer sound, fat tone, yet good precision for rudimental work. Reminds me of snare played by Frank Arsenault. Good light weight for marching!

Oh my gosh. Absolutely beautiful !

I actually began to cry when I saw this snare drum.

I am a lover of the 60's 70's marching snare sound.
(I hope someday marching drummers will return to the classic sound)

You brought tears to Jim's eyes, I'd say that is one fine drum.

Great job with it. Have you tried using it with your kit? I have a 14x10 monster that works as a kit snare and can be cranked up for a marching sound. Wonderful to have options.

I don't have a kit, I am mostly a rudimental drummer, so only have snares. Thanks for your comments! It was a lot of fun building.

Man that looks great! Well done. Would love to hear a few sound clips!

I made an adjustment on this drum. I took of the 16 strand Puresounds and added Black Swamp yellow cable snares. Now this has a really classic gut sound, with great articulation. Rudiments really pop now!
