Hi amigos,

I finally got back to my Tamburo Opera Natural Brown Zebrawood finish.
This is a 100% handmade in Italy (Sant'Omero factory more exactly).

This a 20*16 / 10*8 / 12*8 / 14*14 kit + Custom Brass Snare 14*5.5

Factory tour + Video process (for Opera) :

Demo (Glynn Method) :
Audix + Ribbon Overheads + Cad snare

Spec :

- Multilayer staves design shells
- Made with selected North American Maple and Finland Birch 7-ply / 7,5mm
- Epoxy resin rounded bearing edge
- Die-cast hoops
- EVANS drumheads
- Die cast lugs and claws
- Originally manufactured with Evans G1/G2 + EQ4/EQ3 heads

I went back to this awesome kit, I finally did not find another kit with such an incredible sound (bought a Starclassic, Mapex Saturn IV, DDRUM Dios, Gretsch Purewood and DW Performance). Tamburo is still my favorite kit : warm, versatile and perfect sound to my ears.

I'am so happy to hear someone who loves Tamburo! The Opera is an incredible drum set, and yours is particularly stunning!

I am still asking myself why Tamburo do not have more success then they do outside Italy. This has probably to do with marketing issues, because from a sonic point of view Tamburo drums are really great. Even the "lower", non-stave sets (Formula, Vintage, XD, T5) are fantastic, and in my humble opinion they are at least as good as many many sets that are by far more expensive (I will probably open a new thread about a comparison between some Tamburo sets and some other high end sets …). Probably they don't have the best hardware (pedals, stands) but hey, their shells sound really good!

In my humble opinion Tullio Granatello is the greatest drum genius worldwide: his stave sets are unique and his new acrylic sets (Volume Drums) are incredible. Furthermore, if you look at the sets he built in the eighties and nineties you immediately notice how innovative he was: sometimes I look at Steve Smith's or Gavine Harrisons' Sonors, and all I can say is that Granatello created that kind of sets - but with much better sonic qualities - like twenty years earlier …

I'm Italian by my mother :) She was born in Verona. Italian people keep on saying that since Proel got the control of Tamburo, their kits are not as good as the old series.
I'm not OK with this opinion, since Tullio Granatello left his expertise to the current artisants from Proel. I've heard by a specialist that Tullio should go back to Proel within a little time :) It means that there will always be the soul of mister Granatello in any OPERA series.

In other terms, Tamburo is a great brand for sure :)

PS : I'm not fond of Volume Drums even if Tullio is making some very good drums. I look forward to his return in Tamburo :)

HERE A PICTURE OF MY PREVIOUS TAMBURO FORMULA kit, I sold it now :

Nice to hear that you're half Italian!

Tullio went back to Proel more than one year ago. He currently takes care of both the Tamburo brand and his new Volume Drums brand. It is true that when Tullio left Proel for a few years the Tamburo brand partly lost its market, but it is also true that the quality of their drums did not suffer too much during Tullio's absence. The fact is that Tullio is a real genius and an incredible driving force, both from a development point of view and a business point of view.
