I like the black. Especially with purple.
I really like the fiberskin look on natural drums. My white kit had to have black heads. Contrast baby! I am getting better. I didn't put a pic of my kit up to demonstrate my point.A friend of mine just bought a classic maple Bonham replica kit and it came with a black head and it just looks nasty! Anyway he contacted Ludwig and they sent him a white head for the front.
I know black heads were a thing of the 80's but I don't care for them at all now. Some kits they look ok on but I prefer to see white or clear heads now.
Love both kits but leaning more towards the Ludwigs..lol..you're a lucky man regardless.here's my pieced together Stainless Steel kit:
14x26 kick - i think it's from the 80s
16x18 floor - 80s
14x16 floor (used as a rack tom in this pic) - 70s i think
10x14 rack tom - no clue as to the age, it might have been a snare or marching tom at some point as there's some extra holes covered up.
with this kit i used a 8x14 Coliseum Snare or a 12x14 Concert Snare (both are chrome over maple)
this is my Bonham on growth hormones kit that i built with maple Keller Shells over the summer:
20x28 kick
22x20 floor
20x18 floor
16x16 rack
12x15 snare
the ride cymbal is a 26 inch Zildjian Medium... makes the kit look normal sized. heh.
