I remember my school band hall in middle school had one of these and I was always so amazed at how it always sounded so good for such an old cheap drum. Now I've got one just like it. It's a 78, I believe, according to the serial #.

Nice job. what is all of that black crud inside of the lugs.?

Nice job. what is all of that black crud inside of the lugs.?

Ludwig used to pack a sponge type of material inside the lugs to keep the springs from rattling. After 30 years or so it pretty much turns to rotted mush. So I cleaned them out, got all the gunk and residue off of them and packed in fresh bits of fleece in the sponges place. It should last another 20 years or so now.

I love the care you took in getting the pictures to tell the story.

And I love the care you put into the drum.

Excelent job dude! its does look like a brand new one now!

I bet it really sounded good, but now, they should sound like "no words to explain lol"

Its good to see that there are people who care about those "old shool" drums/gears/parts and brings back it to life!

Keep up the great job! (y)

Excellent job, you took the time to do everything right. I too love the sound of an acrolite, I have a black galaxy as my main snare, and starnge enough as it is, I too use it with my catalina club mod :D

nice job!! I love restoring older gear to it's original glory!
