I also run a 14x6.5 Supra-phonic when i want a little bit more projection and shell tone.

My main snare is a 6x14" Trick rpm aluminum snare. Multi-position throw, steel cables, 2.3mm hoops.

No pics yet, except what's been incidentally captured in live shots on my band's myspace page (myspace.com/niteowlnc), and I'm sure you can't see the snare drum very well, but depending on the room and miking situation, I use the CX 5x14 maple that came with my Pacific CX kit (replaced the thin batter hoop with a 2.3mm Gibraltar one, and it sounds as good as more expensive maple snares I've had in the past), or a 6x14 Ahead smoked chrome brass snare. I also have a Pearl 3x13 brass piccolo that sounded great with the reggae & funk bands I've played in previously, but I haven't needed it for a while so I'm thinking about selling it. I had a 5x13 Sam Ash Special (i.e. Groove Percussion) natural-finish maple snare that actually sounded quite good. I got scared parts were gonna start breaking so I traded it even-swap for a 5x10 Mapex steel snare w/mount. It sounds pretty good but I think I need a 12" to better suit my taste. Anyone wanna trade for it?

Ayotte Keplinger 14 x 5.5 (3mm thick) brushed steel with wood hoops and chrome claws. This snare has one of the lowest fundametal notes that I've ever heard in a steel snare. I love to tune it waaaaaay down for the fattest, meatiest backbeats with tons of overtones.

I'm also waiting on my 14 x 8 (1" thick) stave bubinga snare with segmented bubinga wood hoops from Unix Drums which hopefully will be completed soon.

Pearl Signature Jimmy DeGrasso 5.5"x14" Brass snare with gold hardware and superhoop IIs. replaced the snares with 42 strand ultra sounds. For only an intermediate snare it sounds FAT. Wouldn't mind a BB or Black Panther eventually, but for now it does the job.

Very nice snares everyone.

My current line up is very intermediate level but I've been getting by for a couple of years and I can get all the sounds I need with the following:

PDP Maple 14 x 5 (8 lug) - 8 ply with 19 ply maple hoops. Remo CS Coated with a clear Ambassador on the bottom with 20 strand Puresound copper snares. Hoops are stained dark cherry with the shell in natural maple clear laquer.

Gretsch Mahogany 14 x 5 (8 lug) 8 ply with 2.3 triple flange hoops. Remo coated Emporer on batter with a coated Ambassador on the snare side with 20 strand steel snares.
