How Big is Your Ego

Remind me to pull that stunt next time I'm not completely satisfied with every tiny detail at a gig ;) What a spoilt child! "It's my ball & I'm going home". Ah well, it's he who'll pay the price for that over time, as audience numbers dwindle. So arrogant, & a total lack of respect for the audience.

I used to have an ego back in my twenties. Then one day I saw Dave Weckl play drums. My ego has been missing ever since.

I have a pretty minimal ego, and I would never throw even a mild tantrum, let alone deliberately disappoint anyone who paid me to play and makes my career possible.

Speaking of which, I've been a working drummer for over 35 years with no signs of slowing down. In fact, the last few years have been my busiest ever. Let's see how long Jack stays in the game with stunts like he pulled.

Billy Joe's (supposed) rant was at least aimed somewhat at corporate commercialism (and the ad dollars that paid his salary that night...) But Jack sent a big 'screw all of you' directly to the fans that pay to keep his show on the road.

Ingrate.

I suppose he didn't know the sound was bad during sound check?

He's into his "full brand" marketing (from the article). Sounds about right.

If it's not "just so", then he pusses out? I like the Dead Weather band, but it got to be too much "cool" and the posing and acting of the singer could get annoying.

Racontours is cool, but it's a "band" and he can't act like a dillhole in that situation.

Sometimes he's cool, sometimes stupid. Doubt he'd pull this again. People WON'T put up with it.
It's a new day and age, where everyone can "see it as it happens" and say "he's coming here, but f--k that, I'm not paying to have this crap happen".
The backlash is swift these days.

Don't like the sound? Then travel with your OWN monitor system and have what you want going through it.

Its a venue, not a studio. I wish I GOT any kind of monitor on a lot of my gigs.
Do your gig and shut up.

Very swift. Let's see how his show tonight goes!

All the bands I've been in EGO means YOU GO away

Ha, yes, well called Jon. What a dipstick! It was obviously the audience's fault for changing the room acoustics :)

The presence of the audience usually improves any problems in a hall, certainly they don't make it worse.

Rooms vary, not all sound great, and the band can usually tell that when onstage, even with the relative isloation of in-ears. But this is the first time I've heard of an artist ending a show early for that reason.

Cry baby. Ingrate.

I don't know how many of you have been to Radio City Music Hall, but the acoustics are great.More than a few live albums utilizing some ambient micing were recorded there.I've never heard anyone complain about the sound at a concert.

This ego maniac may just have comitted career suicide. The fans put you there and the fans can take it all away. The only thing he could possible do is apologize, refund the ticket fees and give that audience a free show.

What a self absorbed twit.

It won't have any impact on Jack White. Stuff like this doesn't hurt rock stars. This is nothing new for rock stars. I remember a story about Al Stewart playing Madison Square Garden back in the 70s and playing like 2 songs before walking off stage because he wasn't happy with the sound.

It would be very satisfying to see bad behavior by rock stars punished, but the truth is it usually only adds to their legacy. We like our rock stars to behave badly, even when it's towards us.

I have to agree with Lar here. Great human nature ob there. Controversy is great for attention.
