Tom angles!!!!

Re: tom angles!!!!

Tom Angles - now with 100% more Monkees! (Sorry, couldn't resist...)

So many bad drumsets, I'm splitting up into two posts this week...

1) No kidding, I found the picture like this on CL.

2) The tom palsy... the mangled snare head... the ride on the left side angled so steeply it'll break both sticks and wrists... this is why I love this thread.

3) Drumset 200 OBO. Call O. North.

4) Sigh.

5) Gotta have room for the cowbell.

6) Its eyes keep following me...

7) ... what is up with that hanging floor tom... Seriously, people, even if you don't play drums, does that LOOK okay to you?

8) Will throw in child for extra 250.00.

9) A worthy contender for separated toms award.

10) The drumset equivalent of dragging knuckles.

11) The horror... the horror...

12) Dirtiest hi-hats evar.

13) Rockwood quality yet again.

Re: tom angles!!!!

Part Two of The Worst Angled Week Ever.

14) Looks like it fell down those stairs.

15) Perfect for when you sit to the exact right of your bass drum.

16) Squint your eyes and you can almost see the suck.

17) You know, this is what gave Phil Collins his back troubles.

18) Literal eyebleeding.

19) Today's "Bucket of Suck" award goes to...

20) Looks like the picture was taken with a fisheye lens by M.C. Escher.

21) If I looked like that i would hide in a dark garage too.

22) Hey, my face is up HERE, man.

23) Ironically, this is a Precision drumset.

24) There is no hiding here.

25) My entry for the Starship Enterprise category. or maybe the Simpsons Mutant Fish Lookalike Contest.

Re: tom angles!!!!

Tom Angles... when you just can't get enough carpal tunnel syndrome.

1) I had a firend in high school who had a Slingerland Black Gold set. They look classy. Except they are prone to steep angling.

2) Looks like this set hasn't got its sea legs yet.

3) Not just two, but three evenly spaced toms. Awesome.

4) This is the way to start any kid out on drums.

5) Space (between toms) - the final frontier.

6) Blaaaaaaaah!

Re: tom angles!!!!

Hey, you wouldn't want your toms too close together, would you? You might end up hitting the wrong one.

Re: tom angles!!!!

This thread turned a year old on the 20th (2 days ago), and I have to say it has been the most entertaining thread of all time, on an epic proportion.

May your simbles continue to stand 5 feet away from your kits, and your toms 5 feet apart. May your drums continue to be muted by "generous" amounts of duct tape and your kicks and floor toms remain inverted. May your tom angles beg for dented heads and broken bloody fingers. May we continue to defy common sense and get even more creative by inventing bigger, better and even more absurd setups. But by-god, when it happens promise me one thing...it will be forever remembered by placing a photo in this immortal thread! On that note, may the next year be full of genuine "Fail" drumming photography at the highest level.

Carry on!

Amen to that brother!

Re: tom angles!!!!

LOL, have you noticed that all those kits (except for the Monkees kit) have ultra-deep power toms. If you ask me power toms are garbage, they sound like buckets, the smaller standard size toms sound much better than the drums from these toy drum kits.

The complete opposite would be Tama Hyperdrive toms which are like shallow (1.5 inch shallor than standard) and you can set them low and near flat.

A good example of someone who has good respect for the feng shui of kits tom angles would be Chad Smith.

...but hey, I like your haha-lol sense of humour.

E-bay seller: "Hmmm...what if those bidders can play those toms upside down?"
E-bay buyer: "Holy crap, are those arms."

Actually, they're mostly standard size toms. Power toms were mostly left behind in the 80s. I don't think they sound like buckets, it's just that most power toms you see have equally 80s pinstripes which tend to give you that sort of sound.

Re: tom angles!!!!

My gem of the week. Top contender for "most stuffed kick drum". Love the "I've just found a pair of tourist bongos so I'll wedge them between my toms" innovation. Nice design of duct tape too.

it's weird that somehow the floor tom survived the onslaught of muffling.

I think the drums are sick of being mistreat by their owners that they are starting to rebel. This floor tom has obviously had enough and has made his stand.

The term "Power Toms" is a silly marketing slogan. Most drums throughout history have been deeper than they are wide. Only Western drums tend to be shallower.

Personally, I like deep toms and deep drums in general. Except I like a shallow snare for more articulation. That is against the current fashion.

Re: tom angles!!!!

Congratulations to Bojangleman for the one year anniversary of the "Tom Angles" thread.

"Nuff said" was what he wrote after the CraigsList link posted on that fateful day.

Poor guy below only had his mom and Danny Bonaduci to help him set up his kit.
