Blind is a kick ass drum record !

Yea. I was very hyper-focused on guitar back then and never really noticed stand-out drumming. Blind was one of the first albums (along with Human and Focus) where I really took notice of the drumming.

In no order...

The Band (The Band)
Jail Break (Thin Lizzy)
Boys and Girls (Alabama Shakes)
London Calling (The Clash)
Sublime (Sublime)
Superunknown (Soundgarden)
Young, Gifted and Black (Aretha Franklin)
Led Zeppelin (Led Zeppelin)
Weezer (Weezer)
Person to Person (Average White Band)

That was fun!

I really dig your selection.

Rock albums, in no particular order:

1. AC/DC - Back in Black
2. Black Sabbath - Paranoid
3. Scorpions - Blackout
4. Boston - Boston
5. Deep Purple - Machine Head
6. Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti
7. Green Day - Dookie
8. Genesis - Three Sides Live
9. Alice in Chains - Dirt
10. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication

Just as they catch my eye on my record shelf:

Tim Berne -- Fractured Fairy Tales w/Joey Baron
Lenny White -- Venusian Summer
McCoy Tyner -- Supertrios w/Tony Williams and Jack Dejohnette
Jan Garbarek -- Dansere w/Jon Christensen
Elvin Jones -- The Ultimate
Eddie Palmieri -- Vamonos p'al Monte
Joe Henderson -- State of the Tenor w/Al Foster
John Coltrane -- Selflessness featuring My Favorite Things w/Elvin Jones
Keith Jarrett/Jack Dejohnette -- Ruta and Daitya
Weather Report -- 8:30 w/Peter Erskine

I just picked Venusian Summer randomly from your list and whoa! Prince of the Sea is great stuff. This is kinda where we are going in my fusion band too. New fan here man. I need to seek out new sounds beside all the rock bands I grew up with, but that's where I did my time. In rock.

Billy Cobham - Spectrum

Absolutely love this album, BC introduced me to the world of Fusion, Stratus & Red Baron, 'nuff said.

Zep - IV
AC/DC - Back in Black
GnR - Appetite for Destruction
Scorpions - Love at First Sting
Beatles - Abbey Road
Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast
John Cougar - Scarecrow
Queensryche - Operation MindCrime
Steve Earle - Shut Up and Die like an Aviator
Zep - Presence

So we are looking at: Bonham/Phil Rudd/Steven Adler/Herman Rarebell/Ringo/Clive Burrowes/Kenny Arnoff/Scott Rockingham/Bonham again and no clue who played for Earle on this live album(he was so ripped, I doubt he knew who was playing drums for him either)

Did some intense listening to selections from the collection this week. Here's 5 more drumming gems:

1. Shadowfax - The Odd Get Even: The late, great Stuart Nevitt plays such wonderful textural drums on this new age classic that you hear something new every listen.

2. Buddy Rich - Speak No Evil: The Master goes FUNK on this lesser known album. His heavy hi-hat work is amazing. Overall, Buddy lays back and grooves. The arrangement of The Spinners' Games People Play is one for the books.

3. Sugar - Copper Blue: Malcolm Travis' tight precision attack is a lesson in pocket.

4. Gov't Mule - The Deep End, Vol. 1 - Matt Abst is just a tasty player. Excellent dynamics and propulsion on this tour-de-force effort.

5. Ted Nugent - Craveman: A young Tommy Clufetos shows why he rose so quickly through the hard rock ranks as he slams his way through this monster.

PEACE,

MT

Mahavishnu Orchestra - Inner Mounting Flame - Billy Cobham

Billy Cobham - Spectrum

ELP - Welcome Back My Friends - Carl Palmer

Weather Report - Black Market - various

Jean Luc Ponty - Enigmatic Ocean - Steve Smith

Dave Weckl Band - Live and Plugged In

Return to Forever - Hymn to the Seventh Galaxy, Where Have I Known You Before, No Mystery, Romantic Warrior - Lenny White (Hard to pick just one of those).

Tony Williams Lifetime - Believe It

Mike Clark/Paul Jackson The Funk Stops Here - Mike Clark

Buddy Rich Big Band - West Side Story

Here's a few more I've listened to recently:

1. Dave Valentin - Musical Portraits: Richie Morales tears it UP on this record.

2. Fareed Haque - Sacred Addiction: Tom Brechtlein plays beautifully on this very nice listen.

3. John Tropea - NY Cats Direct - A great contemporary jazz album. The drum-god duo of Alan Schwartzberg & Steve Gadd share duties on these songs. You can hear how much fun was had recording it in the playing.

4. Kenny Garrett - Simply Said: A terrific chill record with drummers Chris Dave or Jeff Watts doin' some really great playing.

5. The Zombies - Odessey and Oracle: One of my all-time faves. The rhythm section of bassist Chris White and drummer Hugh Grundy makes this psychedelic gem move!

PEACE,

MT
