Steve Gadd- No explanation needed
Wil Calhoun-awesome power and groove
Animal-The reason I started playing the drums, seriously.
Dave Weckl-HOLY CRAP! Flawless

Re: your drum gods!!!

In NO order:

Dave Weckl (My original inspiration to start drumming)
Vinnie Colaiuta
Buddy Rich (I think everyone has a Buddy Phase)
Carter Beauford (My inspiration to buy a flat ride for the left side)
Stewart Copeland (The hats...the hats)
Ari Hoenig (PURE Jazz...PURE Musicality)
Shawn Pelton (My Inspiration for being a WORKING drummer)
Tom Brechtlein (IMO, the most Musical of all the big Corea fusion cats)
Antonio Sanchez (Check out Pat Metheny's "Speaking of Now:Live" DVD or CD)
Abe Laboriel Jr. (More career Inspiration...such a NICE guy too)
Marvin "Smitty" Smith
John Blackwell (...basically ANY musician that has ever played with Prince is up there)
Sheila E. (I have one cymbal mounted upside down on boom in her honor! )

This is a pretty rough and there's a TON of outstanding drummers out...so many that it's mind boggling. I hear of someone new and great nearly every day!

Re: your drum gods!!!

This'll be about the tenth time we all list ours, but anyway, here goes...

Dennis Chambers
Steve Smith
Kenneth Schalk
Billy Cobham
Marco Minneman
Vinnie Colaiuta
Jon Theodore (who finally made it this high in my list of drummers after getting to see him earlier this month)
Buddy Rich
Ivan Zervigon. my teacher. He's that f*cking good (in case there's a curse filter on this thing).

Re: your drum gods!!!

my drumming gods would have to be

**-KEITH MOON-**

joey jordison
nat townsley
ian paice
john bonham
ginger baker

I find it a little disturbing that keith moon dosnt get much of a mention in these forums...:-( which im not too happy about, it needs to be understood that keith moon(the who) should not be judged by his studio performances...but only by his live performances...only the great keith moon was able to twirl his sticks-throw a floor tom over his head-and drink a cup of brandy the while doing a fill :)...watch his live at leeds dvd....and dare i say it hell get more of a mention in these forums then john bonham

Re: your drum gods!!!

I think I only have one drumming 'God' -

Jeff Porcaro; and I had to scroll through 22 posts to see him mentioned here - what's going on dudes?? :)

Followed very closely by Carlos Vega, then John Robinson. I'm a groove guy!

No need to mention all the old jazzers, they've already been listed.

Re: your drum gods!!!

The one and only Stanton Moore for me. Single biggest influence on my playing. best drummer of all for me

Re: your drum gods!!!

Horacio 'El Negro' Hernandez is up there first of all because he is an amazing drummer, but also because I met him and he is a really nice, down to earth guy.
